When there are no protests, ballistic shields allow officers to enter areas & buildings to apprehend criminals who want to hurt them & others. With the current targeted shootings of police officers, I support the funding for ballistic shields. Police officers should have the right to defend themselves on the job.
The further militarization of Phoenix PD further pushes us towards a totalitarian police state. Concentrate resources on community initiatives rather than a paramilitary organization already in controversy for excessive force and corruption.
Ballistic shields are not something that Phoenix Police need. Donate that money to towards mandated quarterly mental health screening for traumatized officers who have been involved in cases that result in a deadly outcomes or other types of trauma.
