91 Public Hearing - Certificate of Appropriateness - Appeal of Historic Preservation Commission's Decision on Certificate of Appropriateness Application HPCA 2100117 - 309 W. Monte Vista Road in the Willo Historic District
On behalf of Preserve Phoenix, I am writing to SUPPORT THE APPEAL of the Certificate of Appropriateness Application HPCA 2100117, at 309 W. Monte Vista. We are in concurrence with the Willo Neighborhood Association in this case. The proposed garage/yoga studio exceeds the guideline for height in the City Design Guidelines which state that an ancillary building should be "subordinate" to the main structure.
I support the appeal. I find it disturbing that Commission members (Rampy) can create a new definition of "subordinate" when it suits them. Secondary new structures (garages) should be subordinate in size & appearance of the primary historic bldg & if larger should maintain original relationship to house. By allowing this it will set an unwanted precedent in other historic districts. Thx to Amato, Garcia, Scheel & Rayle for doing their duty & voting NOT to uphold Hearing Officer decision.
