Phoenix PD is under investigation for the damage it's caused the community and should not get increased funding. We know it won't keep our communities more protected. This council is aware of the problematic practices of the Phoenix PD and chooses to turn a blind eye, but we will not. I oppose this budget because it neglects the community and the human beings living under-serviced and under-resourced in our community in favor of supporting a violent police force that has had no accountability.

This budget does not serve the people of Phoenix. The last minute addition to the budget of $20 million going towards raises for the deadliest police force in the country is despicable. More money needs to put towards actual community care like mental health resources, public transportation, substance abuse assistance, and housing the ever growing unsheltered population.

I work as a minimum wage worker in a fast-food restaurant. I and my co-workers experience threats, people doing drugs in bathrooms, and it takes police to respond from 30 minutes to hours because of how short-staffed they are. Please vote yes, we need to change something as soon as possible before this situation gets out of control. I'm afraid to walk outside because I know there might not be a police officer out there to respond to my call for help.

City council, please go out into the communities you represent and spend more time viewing the issues that are having a heavy impact on our neighbors. More and more people are being forced to the streets with the increase in rent, and those who are living on the streets are dying from heat related causes. More money should be routed towards organizations and the people you serve. If you don’t see this, you are not spending time in your communities. Prioritize putting people first.

To put it simply Phoenix Police should not be getting any raise in their budget for many reasons that this council is well aware of. I oppose this budget that neglects the community in favor of supporting a violent police force that has had no accountability.

Police tell us they can't hire folks to work, so we give them more money. They spend that money on overtime for fake riots taking money from the folks who need help surviving record high housing inflation, gas prices, and heat. Police prove themselves incapable of doing anything helpful while repeatedly shooting and killing our neighbors with impunity. Don't reward this behavior with more funding. Reallocate the salaries of the 1000 sworn officers we were unable to hire to things we need Vote NO

Phoenix City Council, please listen and be accountable to the people of Phoenix. This budget report needs to center around community care, always. It is unacceptable how this budget is drafted considering the harm caused within “public safety” brought by the Phoenix Police. It is unacceptable how this draft chooses to spend money on property and not people who are dying of the extreme heat on our city streets! Do better!
