No pay raises for police!
● Phoenix Police got $20 million in pay raises last summer and every other city worker was
left behind. Phoenix Police are already the highest paid police in the state. The millions
of dollars that will be given for police pay raises and bonuses in this contract should be
going to fund community resources from the Pueblo’s Budget.
● We need investment in the city workers who help our communities thrive!
The way this city prioritizes police instead of urgently needed resources for community is shameful. Year after year, you give them millions and millions, ignoring so many other needs. Phoenix is becoming unlivable due to rising housing costs, and the lack of resources. Police won’t solve any of the problems we're facing. We need free public transportation, housing that is safe from heat, and 24/7 restrooms in public spaces.
We need to be apart of negotiations from the start, no more secrecy.
In Dec 2022, City Council let PLEA hide their contract from community review, violating city code & eliminating the only chance community had to learn PLEA’s demands & give feedback. Contracts negotiated in secret lead to more police violence, less accountability & reinforce PLEA's power over the city. This year, PPD have already shot at 11 people. The PLEA contract destroys community safety & leads to millions of dollars for police pay raises that should be used to fund life-affirming services.

In December, City Council let PLEA hide their contract from community review, which violated city code and stole the only opportunity community had to give meaningful feedback.
The PLEA contract impacts the safety and wellbeing of everyone in our community. Every dollar police get is a dollar that could go towards critical community resources like housing, 24/7 bathrooms, and public transportation.

The Goldwater Institute opposes the proposed Unit 4 MOU because it was negotiated in the dark without proper public input in violation of the Meet and Confer ordinance. The agreement also contains unconstitutional provisions related to release time positions and dues deduction revocation restrictions. The MOU should be rejected and these legal deficiencies addressed. For more information, please see our letter to the City Council dated April 18, 2023. - Parker Jackson, GI Staff Attorney
I am shocked Phoenix City Council would consider giving Phoenix Police more money on top of the huge raises last year. Currently $850 Million for 2,600 police + staff.
I am an extreme victim of violent Officer Jason Gillespie who almost killed me with his bare hands because he thought I called the police too many times. He's currently training new recruits in the police academy making $90,000 while I am permanently disabled. Search Martha Winkler v City of Phoenix & FB Justice For Marti Winkler
