Please support this modest increase to the city sales tax to replace funds taken away by the state through repeal of the rental tax.The repeal has done nothing to help affordability of rental housing, but it threatens city services.Important to note that the city had been doing a good job managing its budget until it was thrown this curveball by the state. Failure to replace these funds will impact critical programs. It is specious to suggest otherwise. Thank you for your support.
When the State Legislature proposed cutting the rental tax they did so expecting that it would help people struggling to pay their bills. It did not! there's plenty of news stories citing how the elimination of rental tax was never passed on the renters. Now, cities across the state are faced with the impacts of reduced State-Shared revenue on which we rely for our basic public safety services. Now our cities must find ways to replace those funds with a modest sales tax increase. Vote Yes!
It is time for our government officials to take a hard look at how they've been spending taxpayer money. We need to trim unnecessary projects, not increase taxes to spend more. The Goldwater institute has made it plain this is an unconstitutional increase they will be suing the city over which will cause more taxpayer money to be spent. It is not in the best long term interest of the city or it's elected officials to continue on this path.
Phoenix is facing a major financial shortfall due to state funding cuts and rising costs. To maintain essential services like police, fire, parks, homelessness services, and public transportation, the city is considering a small sales tax increase of 0.5%. Without this, Phoenix may face deep budget cuts impacting public safety and neighborhood services. This modest increase ensures the city can continue serving its growing population without reducing critical programs.
The City asked the residents for a budget override, City Council and Mayor promised the citizens it would not result in new or increased taxes. The City does not need new taxes the City needs to set up a DOGE committee to analyze programs and spending, resulting in termination of unnecessary programs and positions to balance the budget the same as any company would have to do.
The council asked the voters for the override with the understanding that this would satisfy the budget needs and no new taxes or increases would be needed. Asking for more taxes is wrong and against your promises. Put the pencil to the budget and get balanced with making cuts. Stop bleeding the great Phoenix taxpayers, we already have made many sacrifices. Enough is enough.
When the City asked the residents for a budget override, this City Council and Mayor promised the citizens that it would not result in new or increased taxes. That clearly was a lie, as you are now trying to increase taxes for politically driven pet projects that the City doesn't need. You should be DOGEing the City budget, not making it harder to do business in the city!

The City needs to manage it's money like we as residents need to. You have the bond measure. Stick to your promises of no new taxes.
