Stop bars and high visibilty crosswalks should be installed citywide. This is one of the simplest and the most inexpensive way to save lives on our streets. Increasing the visibility for drivers and pedestrians is essential to reducing collisions and road fatalities. Other cities have had large successes in reducing road collisions through installing stop bars and high visibility crosswalks citywide.
Support painting stop bars at all marked intersections. Intersections with stop lights routinely have drivers blocking the cross walk. Stop bars will help me know where I should stop my car and still be safely outside of the crosswalk. Stop bars are widely used in other cities and are a simple, inexpensive way to quickly improve safety for everyone. Other cities who install stop bars as a normal intersection feature, have recorded less pedestrian incidences than without stop bars.
I support improving and increasing the markings around crosswalks. Most crosswalks around the city do not feel safe to use at night, improving the marking is a step in the right direction.
I oppose any hawk built without community and business support. A hawk was put in against the community and business approval on Glendale and 17th Ave. This was done about a year ago. Since it went in, we have had more than five accidents and two fatalities. This area continues to have jaywalkers. The analysis that was completed failed to take into consideration so many variables.
Please support updating the guidelines around pedestrian crossings. The currently minimal markings are not strong enough to make crossing at most intersections safe. I live next to a school crosswalk, which is marked only with the two small stripes, and I see drivers ignore the crosswalk every day, even as kids are trying to cross the road to school. Safety and visibility should be top priorities throughout the city, and this simple change will have a profound effect on pedestrian safety.
Please support updating guidelines regarding pedestrian crossings. As a pedestrian and regular bike commuter I have witnessed first hand the poor condition of our street markings. Updating these on a regular constant basis is a cost effective way to save lives on our roads.
This petition is consistent with the recommendations of the Vision Zero Street Safety Committee. The City guidelines regarding pedestrians crossings has not been updated in many years. In the last 10 years we have seen a sharp increase in traffic fatalities, especially deaths of pedestrians. Updating our crosswalk design guidelines so that new and re-painted crosswalks are high visibility is a common sense, low cost way to improve street safety.
Please support the maintenance of the 7s' reverse lanes. As a 22 year Moon Valley (D3) household employed over the years both at county offices and the state capitol as well as 2 kids at Brophy, we have an acute appreciate of the benefits of the reverse lanes. Should the petition be successful, the congestion of both 7s + Central would be severe. I understand that this petition was spearheaded by commercial interests to increase the access to businesses, NOT by residents.
these hawk lights should never be put in place without community and business input. They are a waste of money and don't work.
