I must oppose this petition for special recognition of Charles Kirk. While I am reticent to speak poorly of one who has recently passed, I believe he simply does not deserve this honor. Reverend Maupin's description of Mr. Kirk's character and contributions is inaccurate, as it disregards large parts of his work that disparaged members of our community, including me, who do not fit his evangelical worldview. I urge you to deny this petition.
