I strongly oppose the Phoenix Police Department relieving more pay/compensation, for the lack of safety that the provide. If we are going to tax the citizens of Phoenix, use those take dollars to benefit the citizens, this includes police officers, in the way of education, and health resources.
I support most of this but OPPOSE unit 4. The city should absolutely be pro-worker and that means working with AFSCME, IAFF, and LiUNA. However, the Unit 4 proposal would reduce oversight of a police department with a long history of violence against our communities. Phoenix deserves more accountability, not less. The police also don't need that much money, which could be better spent in other areas of government.
I oppose this ordinance because it limits our ability to hold police accountable, limits transparency and actions able to be taken on police who are breaking the law, all while increasing the burden on taxpayers.
I oppose unit 4, as we need more accountability to come from Phoenix PD. We have seen disproportionate violence against minorities, resulting in unnecessary death
Please vote no on the PLEA contract. This police department is one of the most violent in the country - it's outrageous to give yet another round of additional funding while doing NOTHING about the ongoing violence and brutality of the Phoenix PD.
The Phoenix police department is one of the deadliest in the country. I don’t believe our city should be wasting resources to give them more ammunition to attack our people. I urge you to please use your resources towards preventative measures instead.
I encourage the Council to consider the reputation our Phoenix PD has for being deadly and violent toward our communities. Instead of investing more tax payer dollars into their safety and lack of accountability, I urge you to consider investing into the safety of our community as a whole, including giving people access to resources and developing long-term solutions that can mitigate homelessness, curb the mental health crisis, expand healthcare access, and build trust in our communities again.
This MOU removes oversight, inflates police budgets, and weakens accountability. It allows unchecked staffing and overtime while replacing discipline with training after harm occurs. Evidence shows real public safety comes from investing in housing, health care, and community services—not blank checks for overtime or reduced accountability. ---Sincerely a district 6 resident who wants evidence-based solutions, not criminalizing people and investing in a deadly police force.
