As a resident of Sunnyslope, I strongly oppose Lic App 371676 for AN Smoke Shop at 910-912 W Hatcher Rd. Despite ongoing efforts to revitalize our community, our area continues to face significant challenges that hinder progress. Smoke and liquor stores feed society’s shortcomings and addictions and prey on the vulnerable. As part of our community’s vision for a more vibrant, upscale, and diverse community, we strongly oppose any liquor license that is not part of a fine dining establishment.

There is no question Mr. Rebhi Awawdah can run a business, however, what the business offers and the effects it has on a community attempting to encourage safety, growth, responsibility and more...selling liquor of any kind is not supportive. There are enough businesses in the area where someone may obtain liquor. Another site selling it is not needed in that neighborhood. It adds nothing positive to the area. Please do not allow this license.
I oppose the approval of a liquor license for the proposed smoke shop near our business. We serve families, seniors, and veterans and prioritize a safe, health-conscious environment. Adding alcohol sales raises concerns about loitering, public safety, and the character of the area. This does not align with our community’s values, and I respectfully urge denial of this application.
I'm a resident and president of the West Sunnyslope NA&BW. I strongly urge you to deny the request of a liquor license for 910-912 W Hatcher Rd. Our neighborhood already faces significant challenges related to homelessness. Granting another license would exacerbate concerns about public safety and overall quality of life for residents and nearby businesses. Approving this application places the interests of a single new establishment above the well-being and stability of the broader community.
As a resident, business owner,President of Hatcher Urban Businesses, Sunnyslope I oppose the granting of a liquor license. Sunnyslope is already saturated with liquor establishments, often contributing to increased crime in our neighborhoods, highlighted by a recent shooting at this location. As outlined in prior correspondence with the Liquor Licensing Department, approving this license would undermine ongoing efforts to revitalize the Hatcher Corridor and would be detrimental to Sunnyslope.
I am a Sunnyslope resident and I oppose the approval of this liquor license. There was a shooting at this Smoke Shop a couple months ago and it's clear we do not need a liquor license at this business to potentially create more potential for crime. There are plenty of places to get alcohol in this area already, let's not make this neighborhood suffer when they have been making improvements to safety for years.
I respectfully oppose the approval of an additional liquor license in Sunnyslope. This area already faces challenges with homelessness, and granting another license would worsen public safety and quality of life for residents and local businesses. Approving this license would prioritize one new business over the safety and stability of the entire neighborhood.I urge you to deny this application.
When I first heard of this location seeking a liquor license I considered the potential volume of two vulnerable populations who frequent a city facility (Sunnyslope Family Services) right next door to this potential license applicant’s business which is already a smoke shop.
In consideration that many of our children and our unhoused community members, many of which are seeking recovery and restorative assistance I would recommend against a liquor establishment nearby.
We would like to state our opposition to this liquor license. The area already has an abundance of alcohol and drug related crime. As a business that operates in the area, we believe adding another establishment that sells alcohol would only exacerbate the situation and have a negative effect on the potential for economic growth in this area.
Our concerns for opposition center around a few key points, particularly around neighborhood safety, over saturation of liquor establishments, quality of life for residents, and negative economic impacts. The area is currently experiencing significant challenges, including drug use, encampments at bus stops + businesses, and criminal activity such as vandalism, theft, and weapons-related concerns. In the interest of public safety, this is an at-risk area that cannot endure more liquor stores.
We are Opposed to this liquor license at 910-912 W. Hatcher Road. We do NOT need another business selling liquor on Hatcher OR in the area. We are MANY places to buy liquor. There was also a shooting at this location a few months ago. There are MANY school kids and families who walk on Hatcher to school. I wrote the Mayor and City Council as well. Please Deny this liquor license for the good of the community.
