Good afternoon Mayor and Council Members,
My name is Natasha Guadalupe, and I am here to ask you to protect the $5 million child care set-aside in the final City of Phoenix budget. Parents need reliable, affordable child care so they can work, stay employed, attend school, and provide for their families. When child care is too expensive, families struggle, and employers feel the impact, low enrollment, and this funding would help stabilize classrooms and expand access.

I strongly support keeping the $5 million ongoing child care set-aside in the final City of Phoenix budget and ensuring it is used to provide child care. Child care is workforce infrastructure, and this investment will help Phoenix families, employers, and children thrive. As a public school Superintendent serving students in Pre-k to 8th grade, I know that child care is critical to our ability to hire and retain teachers and staff and is necessary for the families we serve to earn a living.

Please keep this money allocated towards child care. It would help so many parents be able to join the workforce if they are able to afford child care.

Thank you Phoenix City Council for your consideration. Please protect the $5 million investment for childcare in the final city budget. I own and operate a center in North Phoenix. Phoenix families face REAL challenges with the cost of care. Child care is a cornerstone of the Phoenix workforce, economy and wellbeing of families. By supporting childcare, you empower parents to work, contribute to the economy, and build a stronger community. I support allocating $5 million towards child care.

Thank you, Phoenix City Council, for considering this funding for child care. So many families are struggling with the cost, and this support would really help make care more affordable and accessible. It would also help programs fill classrooms that are being affected by the current waitlist situation. I appreciate the City’s support for kids, families, and teachers. I work in a child care and also send my own children to child care and this would really help me.

Child care is critical workforce infrastructure. Parents need reliable, affordable care to work, attend school, and support their families. When care is unavailable, businesses face turnover, absenteeism, and staffing challenges. This investment helps reduce costs for families, strengthens Phoenix’s economy, supports child development, and positions Phoenix as a leader in supporting working families and long-term economic growth.
