This police contract is full of weak reforms and more money for Phoenix police. Letting cops negotiate this contract behind closed doors has resulted in one of the most violent and unaccountable departments in the country. Council needs to reject this contract until the public is guaranteed full access to labor negotiation meetings. It is our money and our safety on the line.
Giving phoenix police pay raises is rewarding them for a year of national embarrassment, endless scandals, and anti-Black violence. They killed our neighbors, had white supremacists within their ranks exposed, and colluded with the county attorney to prosecute protesters. A vote in favor of this budget is a vote for white supremacy.
City Council, the community has been speaking out clearly against the violence and harm that PPD inflicts on Black, brown, indigenous, and poor people. Yet these cries remain unanswered. Why? The only possible reason that you would vote yes on this MOU is if upholding systemic racism and supporting killer cops is your top priority. It is YOUR JOB to work on behalf of your constituent's needs. You have the power to begin dismantling this system, starting with this vote. Vote NO.
Vote NO. Police are already the most heavily protected group of people in the country. They can literally kill anyone they want, whenever they want, and never face any consequences. Police are the militarized arm of the state, completely unreachable by any legal system of accountability. You must not give PPD even more power and funding and no accountability. You have the power to oppose white supremacist violence, by revoking your support of PPD. Be brave and get on the right side of history.

Phoenix police should not need a bride in order to be accountable. Phoenix police should not receive pay raises after breeding a culture of violence and fear. COVID relief money should absolutely not be used to pay police bonuses. Please do not support a police contract that continues to protect unlawful, discriminatory behavior. Help make the police better. Stop assisting in the division of our communities.

Please approve in the best interests of ALL versus the small number who seek to demoralize/dehumanize/demonize our PD. It includes enhanced transparency (something everyone said they wanted) and a pay increase (same as other employee contracts) which will help in recruitment & retention of officers. We are the 5th-largest US city, still growing, increased violent crime, and yet have less officers per capita. Do the right thing and make decisions using common sense, not anti-police narratives.
I don't think you all are listening to the voices of black, brown and indigenous people. This type of document, which outlined raises granted to certain positions is ridiculous! None of the documents presented represent the REAL and SYSTEMATIC change we are seeking. It's more distractions. Please vote NO!

I support approval of the proposed Memorandum of Undersanding between City of Phoenix and Phoenix Law Enforcement Association. Thank you for hearing the many different opinions from individual residents, special interest groups and citizen advisory committees. It is my hope that this MOU will ensure more transparency and accountability. of our police force.

NO 5% pay raise for police in a pandemic and after all the police assaults, false arrests, coverup & corruption. Most of these reforms do little to stem corrupt violent cops. They're already getting an average of $75K + big OT & off duty. Where's the actual action for firing ones like Jeff Cooke, John Ferragamo, Jason Gillespie other corrupt and violent Phoenix cops? Most of the police department's internal affairs process and protections that shield officers from accountability remain in place.
Vote NO on this MOU!! How can you seriously show up here today and think this is ok? Your lack of regard for Black lives is reprehensible. Vote NO. The only acceptable vote is NO. Do not support and condone these police unions. They protect paid murderers. Only in the delusion of white supremacy are the cops the good guys. You all are very late to realize this. It’s embarrassing and deadly. VOTE NO. #DefundPhxPD #CouncilStaysFailing
The actions this council takes today will have a lasting affect on their legacy as representatives of this community. A community demanding safety and accountability from a police department drowning in allegations of criminal behavior. Once again our community was not granted the *RIGHT* to help shape something of immeasurable importance. This performative measure, expeditiously pushed before the new council is sworn in, is absolutely dishonest. It is apparent members of this council fear PPD.
I, and the majority of citizens in Phoenix, support the Phoenix Police department and this MOU. We have a shortage of officers and need to hire more to protect the citizens of phoenix. Please support what is right and it is right to support this MOU. I am thankful for the officers that are out there fighting to keep you safe while the minority of citizens are attacking them daily with hate speech and inciting violence toward the police.
I am so thankful for the community involvement of our City of Phoenix Police Department. We have a huge shortage of motorcycle police. We need more and better presence and we will save lives and reduce jaywalking. last weekend we had three death from jaywalkers. We need more motorcycle police for all traffic controls.
