The City of Phoenix is voting on whether to allow permission for a state grant of nearly $7M to make its way to the Phoenix police department (one of the most violent and deadly in the nation) in response to the summer uprisings. This is entirely backwards. The uprisings denounced the murderous anti-Black military police state as it exists in America. The next step forward can not include handing over more funds to police for any purpose. You must not continue to support the PPD. #DefundPhxPD

Our city should be working harder to fund our communities, their organizers & the families they serve. Every dollar granted to the city of Phoenix needs to support our under-served and over-policed neighborhoods, and not a penny more to the Phoenix PD.
Complete streets, build more multi-generational parks, keep our neighborhoods well lit, invest in public schools & community gardens, build affordable & energy efficient housing. Upstream thinking & growth mindsets create solutions, not bandaids.

The audacity to label the Phx Black Lives Matter protests as “riots” when it was simply Black folks exercising their 1st ammendment rights to freedom of assembly. Do you know what a riot actually is? A bunch of white supremacists beating a police officer to death with a fire extinguisher because they are angry that their guy didn’t win. City Council, your anti-Black rhetoric is inciting white supremacist violence here and giving $7M to Phx PD will only stoke the fire more. #DefundPhxPD

I cannot believe the Phoenix Police Department is requesting that their mismanagement of the summer protests be funded by taxpayers. They should not be rewarded for the unnecessary policing of NON-VIOLENT protestors!! Vote NO.

Language matters. Actions matter. Black Lives Matter. As you mislabel non-violent protesters as rioters and continue to fund violent white supremacits, you blatantly display what really matters to you. Money talks. Let your language and actions show you value people over property. Oppose the nearly $7 million imbursement to the Phoenix Police Department. #DefundPhxPD

Not all moneys good money city council. Though I know you would want to approve this measure to find as much money for the budget as possible this eludes to BLM's peaceful protests during the summer being riots? This is an inherently politicized issue and I'd rather see the city grow it's cash flow through other means than fraudulently claiming riots took place and the city needs almost 7 million dollars in reimbursement. The public would like transparency into these so-called "damages."

Once again this council displays a complete lack of care or regard for Black and Brown lives, but especially for those who have been protesting this summer due to the systemic violence that is the norm in the PHX PD, one of the most violent police departments in the nation. Not to mention the ongoing political prosecution as a result of the county and citie's attempt to paint these peaceful protests as riots and an attack on police. Giving PHX PD more funds for their lies and violence is gross.

City Council calls white supremacists who broke into the County Recorder’s office “protestors” yet when Black folks take to the streets to exclaim Black lives matter, Council labels them “rioters.” White extremists bring a guillotine to the State Capitol to intimidate Democratic officials, yet you think property damage justifies targeting and imprisoning Black and brown community members. Stop pretending this is about “law and order” when this is really about your racist beliefs.

Saying protests that are a response to living on stolen land in a white supremacist, anti-Black city are “riots” just shows Phx PD is still acting like the slave patrols they originated from. They kill Black and brown folks at disportionate rates and when the community takes to the streets to boldly exclaim that Black lives matter, Phx police hunts them down and drags them out of their cars to throw them in cages! City Council cannot continue to give PPD a blank check to brutalize. #DefundPhxPD

Phx PD is quite capable of continuing to murder with their existing $745 million. How about you give 7 million to help with legal fees for non-violent protestors facing political prosecution? Or 7 million could help end evictions, or provide housing and healthcare? Instead you reinforce false narratives about protestors against police brutality being “rioters” and “terrorists.” The only terror here is you, MCAO and Phx PD colluding in this white supremacist nonsense. No money to Phx PD. Vote NO.

Labeling this summer's Black Lives Matter protests as "riots" is abhorrent and clearly reflects the Anti-Blackness within the Phoenix PD. Reimbursing the already over-funded PD will only further encourage their hateful and violent rhetoric and behavior. Vote no.

Phoenix City Council must be fully aware that this grant funding relies on Anti-Blackness and baseless contrived claims, otherwise they would not have had to use the most historical innauguration in our nation's history to distract the public from this shady action. Shameful! A true riot is what we saw white supremacists demonstrate at the capitol on January 6th. With every dollar, Phoenix PD continues to dig its heels into the racist and violent reputation it holds with our community. We say NO!

Continued increases to PPD budgets must not go unchallenged, especially when these fund increases are in response to demonstrations held specifically against police violence. What does it say to the people of Phoenix who took to the streets to demand that their city do better, when these funds are allocated to reinforce the racist departments that patrol them instead of improving their quality of life? Vote "no" and show that the city council actually believes black lives matter.

This is unconscionable. After witnessing the outrage and pleas for justice from Phoenix residents being actively targeted and killed by this police department, how can this governing body turn around and decide to use taxpayer dollars to reimburse and reinforce the people doing the killing? These were non-violent protests, NOT riots. Let your language and actions show you value black lives. Oppose the nearly $7 million imbursement to the Phoenix Police Department.

A bunch of white supremacists beating a police officer to death. City Council, your anti-Black rhetoric is inciting white supremacist violence here and giving $7M to Phx PD will only embolden legislators like Ward, Biggs, Gosar and others to continue to spread misinformation and hate in Arizona. #DefundPhxPD

Phx PD wants you to think we are dangerous, destructive “rioters” to the tune of costing $7 million. These were NOT riots, but peaceful protests that were a direct result of police brutality. You CHOOSE to believe these lies, yet you keep paying lip service to BLM.You can’t have it both ways, calling us “rioters” while pretending to listen to us. Phoenix PD should pay for the results of their actions.

Every time you give Phx PD more money you display your anti-Blackness. The demand to defund the police has been clear since long before the summer of 2020, and it’s just a matter of time before those demanding it outnumber your supporters and we fill your seats with someone else. NO more money to Phx PD. Vote NO. #DefundPhxPD
