The anti-Black white supremacist city of Phoenix has been targeting Black liberation activists with violent arrests and false felony charges and now you want to get reimbursed for your violence. You've ignored the voices of the Black people impacted by your violence, but you rush to protect property and power. Even considering this blood money is disgusting! The next step forward cant include handing over more funds to police for any purpose. You must not continue to support Phx PD. #DefundPhxPd

Evidence overwhelmingly demonstrates that PPD is not only violent, but utterly ineffective at even the most basic aspects of their supposed role of keeping people safe. In 2018, 90% of rapes went unsolved. From 2008-2018, 1/3 of homicides went unsolved. No other profession could continue to operate so poorly, harm, and murder, and continue to be funded. So why are you considering the ludicrous idea that they need 7 million dollars to pay for their violence and incompetence? Vote NO. #DefundPhxPD

A SPOILED CHILD with no accountability is COVERING UP FACTS to get more money. Observers + Media followed the protests and the PPD response. On 20+ days, ~8 "protesters" were surrounded and followed by DOZENS of PPD including the FACIAL RECOGNITION truck, AIRPLANE and HELICOPTER. PPD can't manage their budget and wants more money??? Vote NO and make these SPOILED BRATS pay for their own conduct and STOP BLAMING BLACK PEOPLE. Stop funding racial profiling and abuse by police!

Continued increases to PPD budgets must not go unchallenged, especially when these fund increases are in response to demonstrations held specifically against police violence. What does it say to the people of Phoenix who took to the streets to demand that their city do better, when these funds are allocated to reinforce the racist departments that patrol them instead of improving their quality of life? Your white supremacist slip is showing, City Council. #DefundPhxPD

Phoenix doesn't need a bigger, stronger police force. It does enough harm as is. Phoenix needs more affordable housing, more access to food & utility resources & PPE for our people, and safe spaces for the unhoused. The community needs support & uplifting, not increased violence & oppression from the deadliest force in the nation. Put your money where your mouth is - put the $ where it will help people LIVE - and start dismantling this supremacist culture. Vote NO.

Phoenix PD murdered more people than any other department in the US in 2020. Language matters. Actions matter. Black Lives Matter. As you mislabel non-violent protesters as rioters and continue to fund violent white supremacists, you blatantly display what really matters to you. Money talks. Let your language and actions show you value people over property. Oppose the nearly $7 million reimbursement to the Phoenix Police Department. #DefundPhxPD

City Council calls white supremacists who broke into the County Recorder’s office “protestors” yet when Black folks take to the streets to exclaim Black lives matter, Council labels them “rioters.” White extremists bring a guillotine to the State Capitol to intimidate Democratic officials, yet you think property damage justifies targeting and imprisoning Black and brown community members. Stop pretending this is about “law and order” when this is really about your racist beliefs. #DefundPhxPD

The police already takes up the majority of the city budget, why do they need $7M more dollars? So they can buy more tear gas to use on nonviolent protestors? Or is it to buy more rubber bullets to shoot at protestors for nonexistent rioting. Instead of continuing to give money to a violent anti-Black police force, please actually listen to your constituency and use this money for something worthwhile like community services or public education.

give this money to your citizens who are suffering immensely from the pandemic. why are you giving it to the police whose budget is already preposterous. give it to public education, community services, something that actually needs it.

I'm disgusted that the City of Phoenix is even considering giving a state grant of nearly $7M to the Phoenix police department (one of the most violent and deadly in the nation) in response to the summer uprisings. I've seen PPD terrorize our city, our young people, and our community who speaks up. The uprisings have denounced the murderous anti-Black military police state as it exists in America. Invest OUR tax money into OUR wellbeing, NOT into the hands of those who terrorize us #DefundPhxPD

Because the Phoenix PD dispatched dozens of heavily-armed officers in riot gear to intimidate people holding cardboard signs and marching in the streets, City Council and AZ citizens have to pay for it? That was THEIR decision, THEIR overreaction. As the chant goes, "I don't see no riot here; why are you in riot gear?" To even entertain this ludicrous cash grab is insulting to the good work of the leaders of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Black Lives Matter protests are not "riots." Phoenix PD cannot be rewarded for the violent and reckless manner in which they responded to simple pleas for justice.

Phx PD is quite capable of continuing to murder with their existing $745 million. How about you give 7 million to help with legal fees for non-violent protestors facing political prosecution? Or 7 million could help end evictions, or provide housing and healthcare? Instead you reinforce false narratives about protestors against police brutality being “rioters” and “terrorists.” The only terror here is you, MCAO and Phx PD colluding in this white supremacist nonsense. No money to Phx PD. Vote NO

Passing this agenda item is a blatant showing of disregard and opposition to those affected by police brutality. Increasing funding to a department that summarily executes citizens on a REGULAR BASIS would show where the loyalty of the city council lies. Not with the people they claim to serve, but directly in opposition to their well-being.

This is such an insulting waste of community money and resources. Our communities need rent relief, funding for healthcare, education and our small businesses need help. No more money to PPD. Police beat people up for exercising their first amendment rights this summer and sought trumped up charges and ignored threats of white supremacist violence in Phoenix. Enough.
