The City of Phoenix is voting on whether to grant nearly $7M to the Phoenix police department (one of the most violent and deadly in the nation) in response to the summer uprisings. This is entirely backwards. The uprisings denounced the murderous anti-Black military police state as it exists in America. The next step forward can not include handing over more funds to police for any purpose. You must not continue to support the PPD. #DefundPhxPD
Saying protests that are a response to living on stolen land in a white supremacist, anti-Black city are “riots” just shows Phx PD is still acting like the slave patrols they originated from. They kill Black and brown folks at disportionate rates and when the community takes to the streets to boldly exclaim that Black lives matter, Phx police hunts them down and drags them out of their cars to throw them in cages! City Council cannot continue to give PPD a blank check to brutalize. #DefundPhxPD
So, you're just gonna ask for grant funding to pay the police for using police brutality on protesters against police brutality at the police brutality protests?
Make it make sense, Phoenix! Vote no.
OPPOSE. This request is outrageous. City Council is voting on whether to grant nearly 7 million dollars to the Phx police department (one of the most violent and deadly in the nation) in response to the summer protests. This is totally backwards, as the uprising was to denounce the murderous anti-Black military police state as it exists in America. The next step forward from here must not include handing over more funds to police for any purpose. You must not continue to support the PPD. Defund. Dismantle. Invest in community.
HARD oppose. There were no riots in Phoenix. To come out of a summer that tense with emotion and to propose millions in reparations to the Phoenix Police Department is antithetical to the calls for justice we have been hearing from Black and Indigenous People of Color for decades and that have been amplified over the past year. PPD has been rioting against these calls for justice in Phoenix and are the reason as to why the community is calling for opposition to this recovery grant.
City Council is voting on whether the Phoenix Police Department deserves to be given $6.9 MILLION of federal disaster relief money in the aftermath of the summer demonstrations. This is completely backwards. To label this movement as a riot while having a violent police force that has terrorized protestors is disgusting. Not another cent! #DefundPhxPD
City Council is voting on whether the Phoenix Police Department deserves to be given $6.9 MILLION of federal disaster relief money in the aftermath of the summer demonstrations. This is baffling. After witnessing the outrage and pleas for justice from Phoenix residents being actively targeted and killed by this police department, how can this governing body turn around and decide to use taxpayer dollars to reimburse and reinforce the people doing the killing? Not another cent!

Phoenix City Council, by approving this request you are gaslighting the public. Those of us that were at BLM protests in 2020 know that there were no riots, just police violence towards peaceful protestors asserting their first amendment rights. Now the City has the nerve to ask for reimbursements for the killer cops that led vicious attacks on Black led protests? This is a blatant reward to violent, anti-black, white supremacist behavior. We demand you vote NO. You can't ignore us forever.
The only “riot” behavior I witnessed was the white supremacist police showing up in riot gear, which is the police department’s fault and shows inefficient planning and anti-Black mentality. Don’t make the public pay to reimburse terrible planning, which is why I oppose this agenda item. I was at some rallies this summer and saw firsthand how the police treated protestors just for just speaking their truths. The police presence was completely overblown and unacceptable to the greater community.

You must not continue to support the PPD and put money into social programs that will HELP NOT HURT the community. #DefundPhxPD
City Council will be putting property over people if they vote yes on this request while completely ignoring the actual lives that have been damaged beyond repair by their police force’s reckless and shameful actions during the BLM protests. You are giving full approval of the violent white supremacy and tyranny of Phoenix PD as they repress the free speech of YOUR constituents. Please do NOT do this!
The fact that taxpayer money was wasted by our municipal government to pay the Phoenix police department to stand around doing nothing (as nothing was generally needed from them) while peaceful protest took place was enough of a slap in the face to our minority communities overall. How could it be suggested to spend even more? And this request being made when we just saw police actively assisting armed white men break into the US Capitol building? What a tactless proposition. Vote no.
Continued increases to PPD budgets must not go unchallenged, especially when these fund increases are in response to demonstrations held specifically against police violence. What does it say to the people of Phoenix who took to the streets to demand that their city do better, when these funds are allocated to reinforce the racist departments that patrol them instead of improving their quality of life? Your white supremacist slip is showing, City Council. #DefundPhxPD
In May 2020 the Phoenix PD took over the Garfield neighborhood after corralling protesters off of 7th Street. The Phoenix PD took over our neighborhood, recklessly deployed tear gas, sped through our streets, and were witnessed unsafely brandishing firearms. They harassed and injured neighbors and caused property damage. On top of all this, all the arrests were thrown out because of the Phoenix PD incompetence. They do not deserve this money.

I oppose this ordinance. The violent Phoenix PD, the incompetent mayor Kate, and the corrupt city council have been terrorizing Black liberation activists and now you want reimbursement for the harms you’ve caused. You used weapons, both chemical and otherwise, to break bones and brutalize protestors NOT rioters. City council needs to stop putting property over people and you need to #DefundPhxPD

Are you insane? Reimbursement? It’s like you don’t even pretend not to be racist anymore. OPPOSE.
