Do not support the miscategorization of free speech especially of unarmed people as riots or terrorism. We have seen what riots really look like recently, and they do not resemble Black Lives Matter. BLM is a movement of moral conviction. These trumped up gang charges and the extra funding that the officers will receive for their participation are ridiculous. There is no need for political prosecution. Do not provide extra funding to police. Spend it on real human need.

Language matters. Actions matter. Black Lives Matter. As you mislabel non-violent protesters as rioters and continue to fund violent white supremacits, you blatantly display what really matters to you. Money talks. Let your language and actions show you value people over property. Oppose the nearly $7 million imbursement to the Phoenix Police Department. #DefundPhxPD

    Unacceptable crimes committed.
Shot rubber bullets at a man receiving medical aid. His eyes were closed. He was sitting on the sidewalk.

The Phoenix police department has been one of the deadliest police departments in the United States. After leading the nation in police related shootings in 2018, two years later we saw the department arrest protestors in mass. In June, one attorney stated that fourteen cases he oversaw from protest arrests had charges that were copied and pasted, now the department is seeking a reimbursement for that? I urge the city council to oppose this and use the funds to invest in our communities.

Strongly oppose. Racist and inexcusable. Defund the violent Phoenix PD.

I strongly oppose giving more money to the Phoenix PD to the tune of “reimbursement.” Suggesting that this violent, racist, and already grossly overfunded police force needs compensation for their useless and counterproductive display of anti-Blackness this summer is not the best interest of this community.

First you stay silent as Phx PD murders Black & brown folx at genocidal rates, then you give PPD a raise after community members demanded to defund them, then continued to stay silent as Phx police brutalized BLM protestors, and now you want to give them disaster relief funding so they can continue their cycle of violence. During a pandemic where Black, brown, and Indigenous folx are dying at alarming rates in a state that has done nothing to help. Your anti-Blackness is undeniable. #DefundPhxPD

City Council calls white supremacists who broke into the County Recorder’s office “protestors” yet when Black folks take to the streets to exclaim Black lives matter, Council labels them “rioters.” White extremists bring a guillotine to the State Capitol to intimidate Democratic officials, yet you think property damage justifies targeting and imprisoning Black and brown community members. Stop pretending this is about “law and order” when this is really about your racist beliefs. #DefundPhxPD

Phoenix PD, the most violent and deadly police department in the United States of America, is going to be reimbursed for their white supremacist attacks on BLM protestors. Voting yes is a vote for white supremacy, and you're allying yourselves with Trump and his racist, fascist allies by supporting Phx PD who consider a peaceful BLM protest a "riot" while white folkkks storm the capitol. Defund Phoenix PD and spend this money elsewhere.

Every time you give Phx PD more money you display your anti-Blackness. The demand to defund the police has been clear since long before the summer of 2020, and it’s just a matter of time before those demanding it outnumber your supporters and we fill your seats with someone else. NO more money to Phx PD. Vote NO. #DefundPhxPD

Phx PD is quite capable of continuing to murder with their existing $745 million. How about you give 7 million to help with legal fees for non-violent protestors facing political prosecution? Or 7 million could help end evictions, or provide housing and healthcare? Instead you reinforce false narratives about protestors against police brutality being “rioters” and “terrorists.” The only terror here is you, MCAO and Phx PD colluding in this white supremacist nonsense. No money to Phx PD. Vote NO.

The City of Phoenix is voting on whether to grant nearly $7M to the PHX police department (one of the nation's most violent and deadly) in response to the summer uprisings-- here falsely labeled as riots while white supremacists breaking into the County Recorder’s office get labeled as “protestors” in the same breath. This is backwards. The next step forward can't include handing over more funds to the police. Put these funds where they can actually be used to better the community.

City Council, you are upholding white supremacy just like the white moderate did in Dr. King’s time and still does today. You call nonviolent demonstrations that Black and brown folks lead here in Phoenix “riots” - that is exactly what white supremacists called Dr. King’s nonviolent protests. If you want to be on the right side of history in this new Civil Rights era, I urge you to take a stand today by voting NO on this resolution to give nearly $7 million dollars to Phoenix PD.

City Council presents a $7 million dollar knee to the neck if they vote yes. This is a blatant reward to violent, anti-black, white supremacist behavior. That is fully unacceptable. Non-violent protesters lay on asphalt for 8:46 seconds. Racist police chose tear gas and rubber bullets. This behavior should not be compensated nor justified. This violence can not be endorsed. There is blood on your hands council, you approve and fund this violence. We demand City Council vote no. #DefundPhxPD

Absolutely not! The Phoenix PD has done nothing to earn this cities trust or more funding. It is an absolute shame to see the people in which we look to protect us, fail us time and time again. Be accountable for your actions! We deserve better!

To Whom it May Concern: I am writing as a citizen of Phoenix to request that you oppose this request. City Council will be putting property over people if they vote yes on this request while completely ignoring the actual lives that have been damaged beyond repair by their police force’s reckless and shameful actions during the BLM protests. You are giving full approval of the violent white supremacy and tyranny of Phoenix PD as they repress the free speech of YOUR constituents.

The violent Phoenix PD, the incompetent mayor Kate, and the corrupt city council have been terrorizing Black liberation activists and now you want reimbursement for the harms you’ve caused. You used weapons, both chemical and otherwise, to break bones and brutalize protestors NOT rioters. City council needs to stop putting property over people and you need to #DefundPhxPD

Evidence overwhelmingly demonstrates that Phx PD is not only violent, but utterly ineffective at even the most basic aspects of their supposed role of keeping people safe. In 2018, 90% of rapes went unsolved. From 2008 to 2018, 1/3 of homicides went unsolved. No other profession could continue to operate so poorly, harm, and murder, and continue to be funded. So why are you considering the ludicrous idea that they need 7 million dollars to pay for their violence and incompetence? Vote No
