Defund the violent Phoenix PD, not use my tax payer money to fund them.

This is quite shocking, to say the least.

Exactly who are the “rioters” in this $7 million for “response to riot activity?” Surely you mean white supremacists who threatened the life of Katie Hobbs, her family, and Adrian Fontes? Or white supremacists who brought a guillotine to the AZ state capitol and called for a civil war? No, it’s obvious that you mean to reinforce the false narrative that people speaking out against police brutality are the dangerous “rioters.” Stop spinning these lies. Vote NO. #DefundPhxPD

Evidence overwhelmingly demonstrates that Phx PD is not only violent, but utterly ineffective at even the most basic aspects of their supposed role of keeping people safe. In 2018, 90% of rapes went unsolved. From 2008 to 2018, 1/3 of homicides went unsolved. No other profession could continue to operate so poorly, harm, and murder, and continue to be funded. So why are you considering the ludicrous idea that they need 7 million dollars to pay for their violence and incompetence? You must Vote NO

I oppose because I want safety, equity and justice for my community. If this assembly shares those interests for Phoenix, it must oppose as well.

I was born/raised in AZ. I have no idea what disaster or riots occurred. Peaceful protesting, which is what occurred, are essential in our society. The money should be given to COVID relief, education, and other community programs. The police has a budget of over $200 million, yet crime rates have persisted. This isn’t an efficient use of our money, and it should be given to better community building programs. Defund, don’t refund

A new aviation fleet isn't going to feed a family, provide sanctuary for a person in a violent relationship, pay for rent during COVID, provide job skills, or mental health services. All it will do is support Phoenix Police Department's efforts to harass and target our already heavily policed Black and brown communities. With the clear and present danger of white supremacist infiltration in police departments, if is your obligation to protect communities who have been harmed by police. VOTE NO

The Phoenix Police Department's funding has increased over $200 million in the last decade. In that time, the police force has not grown and crime has increased. In 2018, a Phoenix police officer was involved in a shooting every 8 days and the city has paid $26 million in settlements since 2008. And now the police department has the audacity to come to the city with its hands out and ask for more money? Imagine any other job where catastrophic failure could be so richly rewarded. Defund, now.

City Council calls white supremacists who broke into the County Recorder’s office “protestors” yet when Black folks take to the streets to exclaim Black lives matter, Council labels them “rioters.” White extremists bring a guillotine to the State Capitol to intimidate Democratic officials, yet you think property damage justifies targeting and imprisoning Black and brown community members. Stop pretending this is about “law and order” when this is really about your racist beliefs. #DefundPhxPD

City Council is voting on whether the Phoenix Police Department deserves to be given $6.9 MILLION of federal disaster relief money in the aftermath of the summer demonstrations. This is baffling. After witnessing the outrage and pleas for justice from Phoenix residents being actively targeted and killed by this police department, how can this governing body turn around and decide to use taxpayer dollars to reimburse and reinforce the people doing the killing? Please vote no.

The City of Phoenix is voting on whether to grant nearly $7M to the Phoenix police department (one of the most violent and deadly in the nation) in response to the summer uprisings. This is entirely backwards. The uprisings denounced the murderous anti-Black military police state as it exists in America. The proper next step forward is to reallocate money and put it back into education, solving homelessness, drug crises..etc. in Arizona.

You must vote no on this if you are trying to take any steps towards progress, you can't send money as reimbursement centering on the summer when you've had nothing to say about the recent activity of the right-wing protesters of 2 weeks ago, this blatantly names a "side," and puts the Council on the wrong side of history

As someone who participated in demonstrations in opposition of police violence, I can attest that they were highly organized and peaceful. City Council calls white supremacists who broke into the County Recorder’s office “protestors” yet when Black folks take to the streets to exclaim Black lives matter, Council labels them “rioters.” The double standard is crystal clear. We need funds channeled into communities, not into the PD.

Please vote no. The city should not be moving any more funding into the police force. They have been proven to be violent and funding could be used in better ways to improve our community (housing unsheltered folks, community resources, social workers, substance use treatment, etc).

The lack of care shown by the city council about us is pretty obvious to anyone who cares to take even a cursory glance at the process. During the last meeting you cut off those who oppose you, but make time in the agenda for a supporter who signed up for the wrong section completely. Her voice was heard, but his was cut off. It's clear that you don't care about us and only do whatever you want to push your own agenda, and that of the white supremacy force that is the PPD. VOTE NO!!

By giving the PD more money it erases the harm that they have done and will continue to do. The PD already gets insane funding, and by funding it more it shows just how much Phx values white supremacy over Black lives.

Every time you give Phx PD more money you display your anti-Blackness. The demand to defund the police has been clear since long before the summer of 2020, and it’s just a matter of time before those demanding it outnumber your supporters and we fill your seats with someone else. NO more money to Phx PD. Vote NO.

Language matters. Actions matter. Black Lives Matter. As you mislabel non-violent protesters as rioters and continue to fund violent white supremacists, you blatantly display what really matters to you. Money talks. Let your language and actions show you value people over property. Oppose the nearly $7 million imbursement to the Phoenix Police Department. #DefundPhxPD
