It is untenable that the police continue to label peaceful Black liberation protests as "riots," particularly when juxtaposed against the violent mob which *actually* rioted through the very halls of our democracy two weeks ago. There is no better symbol of America’s commitment to white supremacy than the stark difference between how our government has responded to each situation.
A vote to reimburse PPD is a vote to subsidize racism and police brutality. The people will remember.

We demand that you vote NO, the violent Phoenix PD, the incompetent mayor Kate, and the corrupt city council have been terrorizing Black liberation activists and now you want reimbursement for the harms you’ve caused. You used weapons, both chemical and otherwise, to break bones and brutalize protestors NOT rioters. City council needs to stop putting property over people and you need to defund the Phoenix police. As a resident of Phoenix I demand you vote NO and listen to our voices.

The audacity to label the Phx Black Lives Matter protests as “riots” when it was simply Black folks exercising their 1st ammendment rights to freedom of assembly. Do you know what a riot actually is? A bunch of white supremacists beating a police officer to death with a fire extinguisher because they are angry that their guy didn’t win. City Council, your anti-Black rhetoric is inciting white supremacist violence here and giving $7M to Phx PD will only stoke the fire more.

By asking for this $7M, the City is legitimizing police brutality and violence that was brought upon largely peaceful protestors this past summer. It is empowering PD to continue making discriminatory arrests and working with MCAO to hand out baseless criminal charges to BIPOC activists. This is EXACTLY the opposite of what we demanded. We DO NOT WANT MORE MONEY IN POLICE HANDS! The protests argued against PD's already too-high budget, and now the response is to raise it even more. Absurd.

The anti-Black white supremacist city of Phoenix has been targeting Black liberation activists with violent arrests and false felony charges and now you want to get reimbursed for your violence. You've ignored the voices of the Black people impacted by your violence, but you rush to protect property and power. Even considering this blood money is disgraceful! #DefundPhxPD

City Council, by approving this request you are basically gaslighting the public. Any damage that occurred during these protests was at the hands of your police force who literally were trying to kill Black and brown protestors for asserting their first amendment rights. Now the City has the gall to tell us their killer cops need REIMBURSEMENTS for their vicious racist attack on Black led protests. #DefundPhxPD

City Council calls white supremacists who broke into the County Recorder’s office “protestors” yet when Black folks take to the streets to exclaim Black lives matter, Council labels them “rioters.” White extremists bring a guillotine to the State Capitol to intimidate Democratic officials, yet you think property damage justifies targeting and imprisoning Black and brown community members. Stop pretending this is about “law and order” when this is really about your racist beliefs. #DefundPhxPD

Phx PD wants you to think we are dangerous, destructive “rioters” to the tune of costing $7 million. This is FALSE. You CHOOSE to believe these lies instead of accurately observing the consistently non-violent behavior of protestors against police brutality. Yet you keep paying lip service to BLM with weak reformist nonsense. You can’t have it both ways, calling us “rioters” while pretending to listen to us. No more money to Phx PD. Vote NO.

We know that Phoenix PD has targeted peaceful protestors with erroneous charges and spent the summer charging the city overtime to oppress our 1st and 14th amendment rights to peaceful protest. IF we are considering collecting recovery grant funding for our police department we MUST reallocate an amount of the city budge for police to our underfunded mental health services, homeless services, public health services, or any of the other things our city desperately needs more than Police. Oppose!

OPPOSE! The people of PHX DO NOT WANT THIS! The violent Phoenix PD, the incompetent mayor Kate, and the corrupt city council have been terrorizing Black liberation activists and now you want reimbursement for the harms you’ve caused. You used weapons, both chemical and otherwise, to break bones and brutalize protestors NOT rioters. City council needs to stop putting property over people and you need to #DefundPhxPD

Labeling Black Lives Matter protests in Phoenix as "riots" is simply misleading when these protesters were simply exercising their 1st amendment right to freedom of assembly. Phoenix PD is already capable of continuing to murder with their existing $745 million. Why not relocate the presented $6,900,000 to help end evictions, provide healthcare, instead of paying for their incompetence and violence towards non-violent protesters? #DefundPhxPD. Vote NO.

No! PPD made a choice to over exert their funds to use unnecessary lethal force and cause further harm to the community. Stop dodging accountability, asking for more money and murdering more black people. The nations most deadly and violent force deserves no more money. The reason for the protests was due to this force’s consistent choice of killing the community.LISTEN TO THE PEOPL AND DEFUND THE POLICE

This request for grant is a heinous misrepresentation of what happened in PHX and the necessity of these funds. The Phoenix police HAVE BEEN killing people as the protests addressing police murdering our community take place

Continued increases to PPD budgets must not go unchallenged, especially when these fund increases are in response to demonstrations held specifically against police violence. What does it say to the people of Phoenix who took to the streets to demand that their city do better, when these funds are allocated to reinforce the racist departments that patrol them instead of improving their quality of life? Vote NO

Exactly who are the “rioters” in this $7 million for “response to riot activity?” Surely you mean white supremacists who threatened the life of Katie Hobbs, her family, and Adrian Fontes? Or white supremacists who brought a guillotine to the AZ state capitol and called for a civil war? No, it’s obvious that you mean to reinforce the FALSE narrative that people speaking out against police brutality are the dangerous “rioters.” Stop spinning these lies. Vote NO. #DefundPhxPD

I vehemently oppose this and I urge you to vote NO.

The City of Phoenix is voting on whether to grant nearly $7M to the Phoenix police department in response to the summer uprisings. But, the uprisings denounced the murderous anti-Black military police state as it exists in America. The next step forward can not include handing over more funds to police for any purpose. You must not continue to support the PPD. #DefundPhxPD

It is absolutely ridiculous PPD is seeking reimbursement funding for the role they played in the demonstrations held specifically against their police violence. Tear gassing and shooting rubber bullets at citizens in flip flops and t-shirts. An absolute disgrace to civil service. If anything, PPD are the ones guilty of riot. They were not there to protect the people, PPD were harshly upholding their racist organization's indoctrination. Your white supremacist is showing, City Council. VOTE NO !
