PHX PD is not helping the citizens they are meant to be protecting. Funds need to be allocated towards developing and helping the community. When we are able to heal and educate citizens we will not need to rely on outside forces to have a safe community.

The Phoenix PPD absolutely needs to be funded. We need a council to support officers and not blatantly disregard the hard work and dedication these men and women put on the line every day. They are working with broken equipment and inadequate staffing. It is has been disappointing to see our city be destroyed not by police officers, but by a council that continuously votes down support for police. Please do not let PODER be the only voice you hear as you have done so in the past.

I'm 30 years old and have lived in Arizona my whole life. During my life I have seen far too many abuses of power by police officers. I am writing to ask you to oppose a budget increase for the Phoenix Police Department.
The National Police Foundation study found in 2018 that the Phoenix Police had the highest number of shootings in the whole United States that year. I wish to see the money sent to Housing, Human Services, Parks & Recreation and similar programs.

There are better alternatives than excess policing.

We still don't have bodycam footage of Dion Johnson's shooting while he slept in his car by PHXPD.

We still don't understand why PHXPD was so violent with peaceful protestors.

I urge you to have a conscience, do the right thing for our communities and and give to the communities they've hurt the most. Put that into medical supplies and education.

WHY DID POLICE HAVE MORE PPE THAN NURSES AND DOCTORS? Take a stand and defund police now.

I am urging you to defund the police and instate civil oversight. The Phoenix Police Department has a record for being one of the most violent nationwide. If the police want funding then they should do their job PROTECTING and SERVING its citizens, not shooting unarmed black people and using violence against peaceful protestors.

I urge the council to strategically reallocate funds away from the police and toward alternative services that actually sustain, protect, heal, and educate our community. The Phoenix PD has made it abundantly clear with their consistent use of excessive force that they are NOT here to protect us. The police do not make myself and countless others in my community feel safe, give the money to services that will.

The City of Phoenix deserves policing alternatives and civilian oversight should be a priority in the 2020-21 city budget.

As a long-time resident of Phoenix, I request that my tax dollars stop supporting the militarization of the Phoenix PD and instead be dedicated to community building. Lives are more important than property. Defund the PD and fully fund the CRB.

I urge you to defund Phoenix PD and reallocate those funds to benefit the community through housing programs, education and after school programs, and public health.

Instead, please shift funds into programs that help citizens thrive and keep the community safe in the long-term, like education and accessible housing.

Our city has never felt this unsafe. Phoenix has displayed a disgusting side that has always been present. Tentatively proving what a joke you all are. Public trust hasn’t been this low in a long time, and officers should know repercussion for a job not well done. They are to serve the public, like yourselves, and not enforce the status quo of their own ego. Cut funding; establish trust again. Make sure officers act accordingly if they want funding. Do your job.

The Phoenix PPD needs to be funded. The Council needs to stop making emotionally based decisions based off the minority and make rational decisions based on the needs of community. Infrastructure is crucial to community development and that infrastructure is the police department. Take away the infrastructure and anarchy will truly prevail.

I am urging you to defund the Phoenix police and enforce civilian oversight. They are ranked as one of the most lethal forces in the nation, they do not deserve the budget they have been allotted. We need our tax dollars to go right back into our communities that help people find houses, jobs, food and make our parks and roads beautiful. The money needs to go to communities of color that are dying at the hands of PHX PD.

I urge the council to reallocate funds from the Phoenix PD budget and reinvest those funds into public health, housing, education, and the organizations doing the work to build a stronger community. Since the Phoenix PD is known to be the most deadly police force in the country, it is clear that they are unable to carry out their mission "to serve and to protect". The council should fully fund civilian oversight of the department, but refuse any other funding increase to Phoenix PD.

The Phoenix PD is statistically ranked one of the deadliest in the nation. We ask that you defund this broken system and instead invest in community development and services that will actually keep us safe.

Our Phoenix police officers need funding to keep our city safe! They are underfunded and understaffed, if we can’t feel safe in our own neighborhoods there is something wrong with our city!

Funding should be allocated towards rehabilitation and programs supporting members of the community. By giving more funding to the Phoenix police department we are allowing issues to perpetuate with a lack of accountability or solutions to issues.

It's clear the CoP needs policing alternatives and investments in mental health, trauma services, education and after school care, adequate and affordable housing, healthcare, cultural nonprofits, and employment opportunities. I'm urging you to reconsider the $944,680,555 allocated to our public safety department & beg you to redirect funds to programs that heal & educate our community. PhxPD is ranked highest in the country for cases of police killing civilians - we deserve better.

Civilian oversight should be a priority in this budget! Overfunding the police puts citizens at risk and this amount of money should not be used on harming citizens, especially during the COVID-19 crisis. This money could go to providing PPE to struggling hospitals, PPE to prisons and ICE detention centers where prisoners are at significant risk, or to support services to those struggling because of COVID-19.
