The Phoenix Police Department is ranked highest in the country for cases of police killing civilians. It is vital we defund the Phoenix PD and reallocate funds to alternative emergency response programs that prioritize education, housing, economic security, and mental health.
I urge the council to reallocate funds from the Phoenix Police Department and invest in the programs and services that actually protect and sustain our communities, like schools, housing, youth programs, and public health. The Phoenix PD have proven themselves an irresponsible, immoral force in our community. The council should fully fund civilian oversight of the department, but refuse ANY other funding increase to Phoenix PD.
City of Phoenix deserves policing efforts that account for civilian oversight and funds properly allocated to resources for mental health and drug treatment, addressing homelessness, and poverty.
The Phoenix police have consistently shown that they believe in killing the people they are supposed to protect. They do not make our community safer. Depend the police and reallocate those funds to programs that support our city and vulnerable populations.
The city of phoenix needs and deserves policing alternatives and investments in mental health and trauma services. I worked in social work for 4 years and saw the results of sending police officers to homes when what they needed were mental health workers or social workers on scene. There is not enough money in these programs and it would do FAR MORE for our families to have professionals trained in de-escalation rather than taking kids to jail or worse, shooting people in their own homes.
The police have consistently and recently shown that they are not serving and protecting all people. In fact, they often cause harm. It's time to defund the police and strategically reallocate funding to alternative service providers better equipped to support all community members and respond to/prevent crises.

I believe that if there is an increase in the budget of the police department, there should be funds set aside for in-house psychiatrists for these departments to ensure police officers are level headed and understand the responsibility of the power that they wield to ensure that no police officer uses their position to conduct violent acts on the people they are meant to protect.
The city of Phoenix needs and deserves policing alternatives and investments in mental health, trauma services, education, after-school care, adequate housing, healthcare, and employment opportunities. Phoenix PD is statistically ranked highest in the country for cases of police killing civilians. Defund the Phoenix PD and allocate 2020-21 city funds to policies and programs that will create and sustain a safe community.
The Phoenix Police Department is statistically ranked highest in the country for cases of police killing civilians. It's time to reinvest the $700 million budget on policing in the City of Phoenix to alternative emergency response programs such as mental health and trauma services, education and after-school care, housing, healthcare, and employment services.
I cannot support a budget without it being updated to reflect the recent state that our, state, country, and world is in. 7 MILLION in "Golf Course Funds" can probably be distributed somewhere else....
I support in holding the Phoenix municipal police force accountable by reducing their annual budget. Studies have shown that increasing funding does not lead to increased oversight. Phoenix should be a leading American city by setting an example and reducing the proposed police force budget by a minimum of 1%.
I support funding the Phoenix Police Department. They currently work with officer shortages due to a 6- year hiring freeze, broken shields, and vehicles, and are tired! Officers cannot be expected to do their job without adequate equipment, staffing and compensation. We need officers to protect our community. Citizens are unable and should not remove DV abusers, child molesters, dealers, and murderers off the streets. Police funding needs to increase with the increasing Phoenix population!
Phoenix PD is primary to the city’s infrastructure. PPD need to have confidence Council will provide them with funds for appropriate staffing levels. Our PPD is underfunded and undermanned. We have a responsibility to keep citizens safe. Our officers are professionals proven by the last few nights; we should support them with the funds to sustain the current staff levels and increase to hire. I appeal to the Council to pass a budget that supports our officers to protect our great city.
Recent events have demonstrated the need to demilitarize our police and make sure the budget properly funds civilian oversight of law enforcement. An appropriate budget reflects a philosophy in which prevention is paramount - creating a more responsive and just Phoenix in which there is less need for police and less application of unwarranted and unjustifiable force. Law enforcement needs to work with and for the community, not be deployed against the community.
PHX police are statistically the most violent and fail to serve our community. It is time to reallocate those funds and send them to alternative services such as mental health and trauma services, education and after-school care, housing, healthcare, and employment services.
Are any of you aware of the breakdown of society? You should be INCREASING the police force and their pay for the deadly job they do. It’s outrageous to do otherwise. You were also exposed on James T Harris show 6/1 holding the budget hostage Why? Police arrest criminals, vandals, lawbreakers, rioters (SCOTTSDALE) and you want them released! LOOTERS !!! REALLY? Attach your radical wants to the budget? You’ve been exposed. We have a long memory and we VOTE. Why limit us to 500? We know ......
Phx PD has been understaffed for years even as development and population expands along with the physical area that needs to be patrolled. Community members expect police to show up quickly when they call 911 and crimes to be investigated. So many are shielded from the crimes being committed - robberies, burglaries, homicides, child abuse, DV, human trafficking, etc— because of the fine job our LEOs do day in and day out. The community needs Phx PD. Without funding, the protection disappears.
Reallocate those funds towards the people and programs supporting our city and all its inhabitants.

Phoenix needs to offer real housing to the houseless and not the limited amount it offers. This needs to come from the general fund.
