As a resident, educator, and woman of color living in Arizona. I find the actions of the city of Phoenix against people exercising their right to assemble and protest DEPLORABLE. PPD used excessive force against minors, disabled persons, and people who were not violating the law in anyway. The money used to pay those officers to injure innocent CITIZENS could have been used to improve the SEVERELY suffering AZ school system. Schools, teachers, students, and parents need help. NOT these murderers

It's pathetic that it's taken so long for City Council and this subcommittee to even talk about the ways Phoenix Police are picking people up off the street and brutalizing them for protesting against this department's anti-Blackness and violence. Clearly the city only cares about SOME people's right to freedom of speech and safety. The political targeting is so obvious and out of control. City Council MUST hold their department accountable if it even cares about justice and public safety.

We don't see anything on the agenda that reflects the true problems that affect our community. We have been talking about PPD’s violent treatment and are consistently ignored. Now our people brave enough to protest this treatment are being targeted, attacked and caged in an attempt to silence us so your tactics don’t have to change. This is NONSENSE City Council!

PPD and MCAO are invested in silencing community voices calling to defund the violent PPD. Judges refused to charge people due to police reports lacking probable cause; yet MCAO brings the same charges to grand juries for indictment. PPD arrested children and a dozen people, now facing felony street gang charges for exercising their 1st amendment rights. Police agreed to cite and release folks at the start of the pandemic. Yet, PPD has arrested hundreds of protesters, exposing them to COVID-19.

PPD has a long history of targeting and abusing people based on their political beliefs. They surveil and target Black and brown activists, hoping to silence them. Phoenix police go out of their way with violent tactics to harm and oppress people demanding justice. This is NONSENSE City Council!

We are demanding justice for the hundreds of people who have been murdered by Phx Police. Our elected city officials have empowered this violence. We are aware of your complicity in this gross abuse of human rights. You cannot fund and sanction Phx PD’s corruption any longer. Prove that you care.
