62 Public Hearing - Amend City Code - Ordinance Adoption - Rezoning Application Z-SP-2-19-7 - Southeast Corner of 13th Avenue and Madison Street (Ordinance G-6799)
In support of 62. The shelter beds are needed /now/—housing is a human right & our neighbors need safe places to sleep as we continue to work towards building further supports and resources.
Concentration of shelter beds in a low income area with no other regional solution is not a good idea. I support HSC in its current capacity. The city needs to open alternate, immediate shelter locations that are NOT outdoor and NOT tent cities and take on some of the responsibility here. The unsheltered population deserves more than a MEGA shelter and all neighborhoods in a several mile radius of HSC deserve much more support.
I am a current intern at the HSC, and in STRONG SUPPORT of additional shelter and beds. I am witness to hundreds of humans turned away due to lack of available shelter. A low-barrier shelter is critically needed to house those struggling with mental illness or substance abuse. This will benefit residents dealing with the challenges of homelessness on their streets. I respectfully request the City of Phoenix to approve this request and be a shining example to other cities.
I’ll ask city Council to grant the permit to HSC with only the stipulations they have a greed to as we are in desperate need of shelter beds. If our elected leaders take decisive action towards dealing with the problem of homelessness the community will follow. Problem becomes greater each day and delay it’s actually a step backwards.
Please open more beds for the unhoused at the CASS campus. This is vital for the health and well being of some of the most marginalized people in our community. This is especially important during this ongoing pandemic and due to the weather extremes in central Arizona. Also, more people will have access to covid vaccines and other health care with the support of Circle the City on the CASS campus. This is a win-win for everyone in our community.
The lack of shelter beds for people suffering from homelessness in Phoenix is in humane and inexcusable. Please vote yes to show support of 62 in an effort to increase support for our neighbors in need.
Please support item 62. The needs of those that are experiencing homelessness should be the highest priority of the city. Creating shelters, humanitarian aid and resources for Arizona's unhoused citizens helps everyone in Arizona by creating safety and security for the most vulnerable of our population.
City council members you must pass the expansion of the Andre house/Human Services Campus and add the hundreds of beds that are desperately needed right now. People are dying and forced to sleep on the streets due to lack of shelter. You can alleviate this problem right now. Do we really need to implore you to have a heart and save lives? Vote yes on item 62!
I support item 62. Additional shelter beds have been needed desperately for months, and for months the City Council have dragged their feet in an attempt to avoid addressing that need. That must end today - this is a critical resource for our unhoused neighbors, especially during a pandemic, and must be passed!
I support item 62. The needs of those that are experiencing homelessness should be a top priority of the city. Instead of destroying the little bit of hope these people have by destroying their shelters, humanitarian aid and resources need to be more readily available to the them.
I support increased low/no barrier shelter beds in order to allow the service providers to effectively engage individuals experiencing homelessness and ultimately connect them to habilitation and housing. This will also improve public health and safety by giving people a safe place to sleep so they are not searching for make shift shelter in our community. These individuals also deserve and need immediate safety; as well as coordinated efforts to rebuild their lives. Please approve this request
The unsheltered population in Phoenix is one of the most vulnerable groups of people that exist, and should receive the highest priority in terms of treatment, programs, and other resources. Please create more beds and support them today.
I am in support of item #62. It is very important to implement more bed space near the Human Services Campus because there is simply not enough beds to serve the amount of unhoused people in the Phoenix-Metro area. No human deserves to sleep in a place that is unsuitable for human life and if we have the resources it is important that we utilize it in order to end homelessness. Thank you for your time and consideration.
