Please approve zoning because more beds are needed during the pandemic, we have 13,576 deaths and we are putting City employees and constituents that are houseless at risk. HSC also provides resources that are essential and this is a benefit for our community. The city should make this priority.

    Best,

I support the addition of shelter beds on the HSC and opening of AH and CBI’s new low barrier shelter. I live in the Oakland neighborhood and see the clear need for more shelter space every day. Everyone should be allowed to sleep inside. Please vote to support and protect the unsheltered residents of Phoenix today!

We live about a mile north of Andre House and have personally experienced the impact of people living on the streets, with encampments, drug paraphernalia, and concerning behaviors. We strongly encourage the city to grant this request to address the immediate and growing problem, while also working on the city wide plan. We need a both-and solution, not an either-or. Please take action in support of the people who are currently in need of help, and also keep working toward future solutions.

The decision on whether to increase housing for the homeless should not be divisive; every human being deserves to have a roof over their head. It is disheartening to see how often the issue of homelessness is overlooked despite how prevalent it is within the country. Increasing the number of shelter beds and maintaining a low-barrier shelter is a strong step forward towards addressing the issue. The access to shelter is a human right, so it should be treated as such.

Please allow more low barrier beds for our unhoused neighbors. Everyone deserves a safe space to sleep. Vote to support the most vulnerable members of our community.

Phoenix is in desperate need of more shelter beds near the “zone”. Police sweeps and putting up posts and chains where people seek shelter will not solve our community’s homelessness crisis. These measures are expensive bandaid solutions that only further endanger our most vulnerable community members. Please allow Andre house to add more low barrier shelter beds. This will keep our community safer than regularly displacing and harassing our houseless neighbors.

Providing housing for the homeless is the cheapest and most effective way to address homelessness. More shelter beds is the way to go.

Adding more shelter beds and keeping a low-barrier shelter is the biggest way to keep constituents of Phoenix who are currently experiencing homelessness. A place to sleep and a shelter is a public health issue as extreme weather conditions approach arizona and because it is what is best to keep these people in our communities safe. Supporting the bed count increase is supporting the protection of lives.

Please allow resining for Andre House and SVDP. They’re part of the solution to helping those citizens experiencing homelessness. People experiencing homelessness need shelter and food, as well as services, in order to survive and get back on their feet.

In support of the continuation of low/ no barrier shelter, bed request for the populations in need of these resources/support. Discontinuing is unwarranted.

I support 62 because i support the idea that in this one realm of existence every one is of value not just those with money. A place to rest is not much to ask. Unless you are emotionally THAT far removed and callose that you cannot see it as a BASIC human right.

The need for additional shelter beds and low barrier shelter beds isn't just great, it is literally life and death. Our unsheltered neighbors have suffered and died due to lack of shelter. It is an obscene moral failing of our city not to pass this ordinance when it can and will save lives. Please show compassion and empathy to our community and pass #62.

Homelessness is a major problem in our country. Unfortunately the homeless get ignored. People want them off the street but refuse to do anything about it. Instead of giving out stimulus checks, why not use the money to help the homeless, by giving shelters more beds. That would be a great start. Please do not remove the low/ no barrier shelter, bed request from the special zoning that is being voted on. Please, please provide shelters with more beds. That is a step in the right direction.

I know there is a growing frustration with how to best handle the homeless crisis. It's such a complex issue demanding of seemingly never-ending time, resources and energy. I can only assume that each of you too want what's best for our brothers and sisters living on the streets. So I wish there was more we could offer at the moment in terms of a long term solution. But this proposal is progress. Small perhaps on a grander scale, but progress. Help those today become self sufficient tomorrow.

Andre House provides a sense of security without shame to those experiencing homelessness. Beds should be added to the shelter because so many people are left without a place to feel comfortable and supported. The simple notion of having a place to rest your head should not be a controversial topic.

The Andre House/Human Services Campus is only asking for zoning, not funding. This is not a matter of financial resources and there are benefits for the city—it would be a financial windfall. It is far cheaper to house people than to keep them housless, especially when the city wouldn’t be funding the additions.

Access to shelter is a human right. Getting people off the streets and eventually into permanent housing reduces other implied costs of homelessness, including first responder efforts, crime, property damage, trespassing, litter, access to health care, and other costs associated with citizens forced to survive on the streets. These beds will directly address the concerns of the surrounding community and their reason for opposition.
