Our unsheltered neighbors deserve so much more than the city of phx has done. The least we can do is add more shelter beds. As a Phoenix resident, I fully support this petition.

More beds and shelter are a necessity to help out those in need in our community. I fully support this petition.

As a Phoenix resident I am fully in support of adding shelter beds. In 2020 there were over 800 people experiencing homelessness who passed away. We must support our community by providing these beds to prevent any further tragic loss unnecessarily. All of us deserve a safe place to rest. Andre House shelter operated by Community Bridges is essential for our community.

An increase in shelter beds is beneficial not only to folks currently sleeping on the street, but also to neighbors who feel as though their own space has been infringed upon because the additional beds provide them a place to stay. Andre House and CBI are tremendously equipped to continue to meet the needs of the most vulnerable. Support for Agenda Item #62 is support for our entire community.

As more and more of our unhoused neighbors are unable to find a place to sleep, an increase in shelter beds is a must. As a community we must ensure that people are not being forced to live and sleep on the streets simply due to a lack of beds or shelter.

I strongly support this motion. This is long overdue. We need to act immediately to support our unhoused community by adding more shelter beds.

Please grant the approval for more shelter beds for a low/no barrier shelter. We don’t know how it will work unless we try. I believe Community Bridges and Andre house can handle this.

I support this rezoning application. Low/no barrier shelter is a step in the right direction for providing for our city's residents properly.

The City of Phoenix is being given a gift. When no one else has stepped up over many years, and our homeless crisis has grown, The non profit organizations requesting this zoning change are stepping up. Especially in regards to the Andre House/CBI low/no barrier shelter. The type of shelter specifically referenced in the City of Phoenix’s homelessness plan in addressing the need for smaller, more specialized shelters to serve those experiencing homelessness. Step up Phoenix. Save lives now!

Please give people a safe place to be in the immediate. By providing bed space, you simultaneously help the person in need of a bed TODAY and the business owner whose business suffers because people sleep outside its doorstep. This is a WIN-WIN and doesn't have to be political. We can still pursue a long-term regional solution. In the meantime, people can sleep inside. Do everything you can to bring as many inside as possible, including 100 beds at Andre House for complex cases of homelessness.

As a Phx resident and who works near the HSC, I know how dire the situation is downtown. While I sympathize with opponents, denying this bed increase will not improve the situation. Nor will this change preclude other ideas in the future. They are here with us downtown. They are not likely to move to other areas of the city with an opposing vote. They are here with us downtown. We should do our level best to treat them humanely. I support Item 62.

Adding shelter beds is both humane and economically-sound. Before the Campus opened in 2005, 800+ individuals slept in Patriots Park. The Campus solved that problem. However, the 425-bed maximum led to people sleeping around the Campus, prompting the use of an overflow shelter where 400+ people slept on the floor. This closed in 2018, forcing people to sleep on the street. With a population increase and lack of shelter/affordable housing, downtown will look like other cities if we don't act NOW.

I am an intern at HSC. This opened my eyes to the need for more beds. Hearing stories on the campus has given me the opportunity to learn. The shelter beds are needed now. No human should ever have to survive on the street in the heat/cold. Having to tell a person they are going to have to sleep on the street is horrible. Please put yourself in the shoes of the people living on the street. This is a community need and we must all come together to support our people.

More than 800 people experiencing homeless died on the street last year. Voting against this petition in anyway, including the exclusion of the ANdre House/CBI shelter would be a callous and unforgivable response to a humanitarian crisis. Approve this petition in its entirety and DO NOT EXCLUDE the critical piece that addresses unsheltered homelessness.

If we wish to see the unsightly and unsanitary tents no longer lining the streets, we must not only provide more shelter beds; we should wholeheartedly adopt the Andre House proposal which will offer much needed professional mental health assistance to the most vulnerable residents of the neighborhood.
