No more money for police. More money for the community.

I am a Firefighter Paramedic for the COP FD. I was trustworthy when I was handed a woman’s child not breathing, every time I coded patients with their blood everywhere and as I was handed a patient's wallet full of cash. We are not “untrustworthy” as stated, we actually are most trustworthy. Please vote in favor of keeping the CAP program with the PFD. We intuitively understand people in crisis. Since 1995, we have been the best and trusted source for improving our citizen’s quality of life.

As a volunteer EMT for CAP in 1999, I saw how crucial CAP is to the citizens of Phoenix. We saw people in their worst moments, having lost children to being displaced by fire. We were met with gratitude. PFD and PPD provided crucial support during all calls. Letters of gratitude were sent to Chief Brunacini for the work we did. CAP needs PFD to continue leaving folks better than we found them. CAP, fire and police work together to provide the high level of service Phoenix residents rely on.43

I had the privilege to work for the Phoenix Fire Department for 32 years, retiring in 2018. The vast majority of that time was spent on front line apparatus, serving the citizens of Phoenix. I have seen the CAP personnel and PFD personnel work shoulder to shoulder, delivering caring and compassionate service to citizens on their worst days. I implore the Council to fully fund the CAP program, and to leave it under the care of the Fire Dept, where it’s been for decades. Thank you.

Crisis Assistance is a fundamentally different approach to helping people in crisis than the PD or FD. It is a mental and public health approach with no sworn officers involved. It functionally makes no sense for it to remain in the Fire Department. It should be fully funded, but it needs to be run by people with a public health focus, so it can develop a broader scope and ensure long term care of the people it serves rather than the limited mindset held in the fire department.

The CAP must be protected and remain under the control of the fire department. As a retired captain who served for over 31 years with Phoenix Fire, I know firsthand the valuable service the CAP provides to Phoenix Fire, PD, and the citizens of Phoenix. The CAP volunteers are the most appropriate and knowledgeable folks to help serve the crisis needs of our citizens alongside Phoenix Fire and PD. They are an invaluable resource and must be protected and fully funded. Thank you.

CAP is essential to the community! They are a huge tool/resource for firefighters as well as helping them to stay in service for other emergencies. Our population continues to grow and we need to help first responders help us.
The anti-police activists should stay in their lane and leave the fire department alone. They are completely contradicting their pleas of having experts and people experienced in crisis situations assist on calls yet they want CAP removed. Please fund CAP!

Please keep the funding for the CAP intact and please keep it under control of the fire department. The program is imperative for helping people on the worst day of their lives. They help people navigate what to do when the unthinkable happens. The program right now is on a very low budget and is run only by compassionate and hard working people who often volunteer their time. Please do everything you can to help them do their job helping people. Thank you
