Think about what will happen to the 4th largest city, if you decide to get rid of the police. Who will want to move here or even continue to live here? Who will want to patronize a business or bring one to the city? Who are you going to call when your husband is beating you? Or your daughter comes home and says her boyfriend abused her? Or when you have someone breaking into your home in the middle of the night? Phoenix will slowly fall to the bottom of the list. I support Phoenix PD!!

There should not be an increase of the budget, the funds should be allocated to each school districts in preparation for our kid's safety.

Not including federal grants, the members of this council propose to spend $591,932,000 on the police. That is more than More than 257x the mere $2,300,000 that the council proposes to spend on our city's Coronavirus relief fund.
    This budget is unacceptable.

Considering PhxPD has a lack of easily attainable info on officer involved shootings in 2019 compared to 2018 where they led the nation, it seems they haven't been taking the NPFs guidelines to heart. The NPF offered 9 guidelines to improve including increases in documentation, and community engagement. The PhxPD needs more than most to earn their budget increases through documented improvement but all we see in the news are more OISs and paramilitary related responses to recent protests.

I STRONGLY OPPOSE the proposed $944,680,555 for our public safety department. our community requires that these funds are re-directed to programs that HEAL and EDUCATE our community. We need to increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for community development and community enrichment. We must prioritize HEALING and GROWTH in our community over further militarization of our police force. WE NEED TO PRIORITIZE JUSTICE AND DISMANTLING OPPRESSION AND POLICE BRUTALITY!!

Our communities need investments into our future in affordable housing, employment opportunities, community development + enrichment, environmental programs, sustainability, and more. We DON’T need more money for police, Phoenix Police is one of the deadliest in the nation!

I oppose the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our public safety department in the new budget. Redirect funds to programs that heal and educate our community. Phoenix PD is ranked the highest nationally for cases of police killing civilians. Arizona is ranked among the worst in the United States for public education. Transfer funding to schools or to mental health programs, housing, or healthcare. Implementing more training hasn't worked in other states and won't here.

I oppose this proposed budget. The authority of the police goes unchecked, and the allocated funds for public safety are disproportionately higher than other points of support. Support our communities in other aspects. Consider diverting funds from public safety toward areas, such as community development and enrichment. I would certainly like to see some of these diverted funds used to significantly reinforce our health care and education systems, if that is possible.

Please reconsider the proposed amount allocated to public safety and defund the police by 25%. The Phoenix police department has not been held accountable for the killing of civilians, and for their racial profiling. This money should not go towards pay raises for the police, they do not protect our community well enough. Please redirect funds to programs that heal and educate our community.

Now more than ever is the time to increase the budget for a community organization to hold police accountable. The budget will include civilian oversight of the Phoenix Police Department by funding an Office of Accountability and Transparency (OAT) and Civilian Review Board (CRB) Our police department is one of the worst in the country & could certainly benefit with funding for more & better training, accountability, & civilian oversight.

I am born and raised in phx. WE must properly fund the OAT and CRB so it can do what it was created to do. Good cops should be in favor of oversight-- anyone misusing their badge with undo force and violence brings shame and mistrust unto the police force-- we must build trust within the community, all of them, not just the white ones.

Please redirect budget increase to be used funding programs for community enrichment and education. If it MUST go to the police, require it to be spent on new training to combat racism and violent tactics in order to educate/reform police.

Our community is protesting for and demands less funds apportioned to the police. We want 25% of their budget move into community-prioritized programs. We also want a budget for a program that supports police accountability, as well as a guarantee of a severance of police-ICE collaboration moving forward. We also want to see the plan to fundraise $3 million for the Undocumented Relief Fund.

All of these votes to Oppose the budget are targeting the Police Department. This budget is for Public Safety which includes Fire, Rescue, EMT, etc as well. I couldn’t imagine living in a city, let alone the 4th largest city in the country, with under funded Public Safety departments who would be unable to adequately respond to a call for help due to understaffing or inadequate training caused by underfunding.

The Phoenix Police Department is ranked as the highest in police shootings. It would not make the citizens of this city feel safe seeing more funding go into weaponry. This money should be allocated to more important programs like housing, education, etc.

I wish City of Phoenix to invest more resources on public education, libraries and quality enrichment program for its children and tax payers. As all Off-line activities have gone, the more replacement options have to be there for Children and families in need through Pandemic.
