I support increasing our "Public Safety" funding; compared to other major cities Phoenix is very underfunded which causes many of the policing problems (too many hours, stress leading to bad confrontations).
Please reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our public safety department for the 2020-21 fiscal year. That money would be much better spent on programs that heal, educate, and enrich our community. The Phoenix Police Department in statistically ranked one of the highest in the country for cases of police officers killing civilians. Other police forces across the country have proven that diversification and training will not end police brutality. Defund the Phoenix PD.
I ask the City of Phoenix to reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our public safety department for 2020-2021 fiscal year. Our community asks that you redirect funds of the program to programs that heal, educate, and enrich our community. Increase the proposed paltry $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for community development and community enrichment.
Hello, my name is Abigail Verdugo. Please reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our public safety department for the 2020-21 year, as it will perpetuate systemic oppression and racism. Police forces have proven that implementing various trainings & funding have not and will not end police brutality.
The City of Phoenix deserves policing alternatives and investments in mental health and trauma, education, after-school care, adequate housing, healthcare, and employment opportunities.
We are protesting police misconduct. This budget, as proposed, essentially rewards that misconduct. It would be better used funding programs for community enrichment and education. Prove to us that you are listening when we take to the streets. Prove to us you care. Defund Phoenix PD.
I oppose the budge as it stands. The funding for police needs to be cut 25% and put back into the community in other ways. We want to see that money used for mental health and trauma services, education and after-school care, adequate housing, libraries, healthcare, and employment. We want to demilitarize police and see their budget spent on accountability and bias training. End collaboration between Phoenix PD and ICE and build up communities rather than fund the systems that tear them down.
I agree 100% the funding 4 Phx PD. I believe we need more officers the ones we have are not over worked & underpaid & if we are giving our officers the proper training they need, they are not so over worked & stressed that they will be more successful. Needs to be more training as well to teach officers how to communicate w/ civilians only a few need to be taught that the badge does not give them superior authority over any civilian. There are bad in anything Please continue funding the PhxPD
It is absolutely insane to defund the police. It’s pure ego, arrogance, and hate not to mention a very uniformed stance. If you think there is chaos on the streets now it’ll be even worse if you defund the police. Those who are pushing for this obviously want total anarchy. This city council is catering to the 10% who commit 80% of the crime. I will not support a budget or bill that defunds the police department. There are summer programs already in place in lower income neighborhoods.
I oppose item #44 Adoption of the Tentative 2020-21 Annual Budget (Ordinance S-46650). I ask the Phoenix City Council to reconsider allocating the $944,680,555 for the public safety department and redirect the proposed funds toward community development, health, housing, and education initiatives.
We ask that you redirect funds from the Phoenix PD and make investments into our communities. Studies have shown that putting more money into the police force only leads to heavy militarization of the PD and this paves the way for greater police brutality. It is not as simple as diversifying the police force or giving more money for them to find a course of action. While many argue that lower income communities demand heavier policing, we also demand better schools, libraries, and parks.
I oppose this budget how its currently stand. I demand that funding proposed for the Phoenix Police Department is allocated toward the City Review Board so that they can carry on their duty accordingly, Holding Police Officer accountable, make timely decision and use fund for research. Protecting the lives and liberties of citizens from Police offers are equally important.
Police need this more than ever for proper training and to be able to help our cities. Our world is turned upside down with all the social media and news and madness going on. Who knows what will happen next. Please don’t take funding away from our officers who go to work and risk their lives protecting us. Not all officers are the one you’ve been seeing on the news. ONE officer doesn’t represent ALL officers.
I oppose the funding the police and implore you to invest back into the community. High policing is linked to increased crime and perpetuates cycles of poverty and violence. I oppose a militarized police force. I oppose the domestic terrorism of police violence on communities and the obscene murder of Black men and women at the hands of the police. Invest in communities through educational programs, art initiatives, affordable housing, employment opportunities, and other necessary services.
Redirect funds from PPD to programs that heal&educate our community.Phx is statistically ranked highest in the US for cases of police killing civilians.Police forces in the country have proven that diversifying&implementing various trainings have not&will not end police brutality. The City of Phx needs policing alternatives&investments in mental health+trauma services,education+after-school care, adequate+affordable housing, healthcare, employment opportunities&sustainability+environmental programs.
I support the Phoenix police department. They are making a selfless sacrifice, not for the money, but to help people. I bet if you asked anyone of them, the answer will be they signed up to help. They are making an ultimate sacrifice to their community and what do they get in return, threats on their life and their families lives. They take such a huge hit to their mental health and self esteem, you can’t put a price on that. Most people would never ever have the mental strength to do the job.
I am requesting funds be directed away from Phoenix PD and instead allocated to health and social services which are underfunded in the city of Phoenix. Let’s support a budget for community health.
I am commenting to ask and demand the Phoenix City Council to lower the budget for the Phoenix Police Department. The citizens and the Office of Accountability and Transparency should be more funded because the people need to see change within the system. Decrease funding to the Phoenix Police and increase in other others important to the citizens.

Police should serve and protect which does not require military or warfare equipment.

I oppose the allocation of this fund. I recommend for 70% of it to be reallocated to help with community development and Police reform

I oppose this ridiculous budget for the police department. This funding belongs else where, like the review board.
