Our community ask that you redirect funds from PPD to our community. The city of Phoenix is statistically ranked highest in the country for cases of police killing civilians. Funds should instead be used to create and sustain a safe community for all, with increased funds going towards education, the arts, and cultural development.
I demand that the current proposed budget for the PSD be reconsidered. I urge this council to look to our community social workers, mental health providers, medical providers, educators and advocates to learn what your irresponsible budget allocations are doing to our most vulnerable community members. Do the research and you will see that defunding the PPD and reallocating these funds to programs that ACTUALLY protect and serve our community will yield a safer, healthier community.
In this time of great uncertainty, we must ensure that we spend our money to provide social protections for all our residents especially those who are the most vulnerable. The budget must fully fund civilian oversight of the police. Even in times of declining revenues, we need to prioritize robust social services. The residents of this city will need it.
The City of Phoenix is statistically ranked highest in the country for cases of police killing civilians. Police forces across the country haven proven that diversifying and implementing various trainings have not and will not end police brutality.
The City of Phoenix needs and deserves policing alternatives and investments in mental health + trauma services, education + after school care, adequate + affordable housing, employment opportunities, and sustainability + environmental programs.
Support Citizen review board. Until our police force stops using unneccessary violence and the City manager and Chief Williams can teach respectable means of policing our city CHANGE is needed. No greater Police funding until respect for our residents is shown!
I urge you approve the budget that has already been discussed and crafted with a lot of work and attention. Simply because there is unrest and people want to "punish" the police department is no reason to go back on the decisions that have already been made. If changes need to be made to the Phoenix Police department, those will include adding additional officers, additional training, and potentially additional oversight. All of these will require appropriate funding for our Police Department.
Please reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our public safety department for the 2020-21 fiscal year. Increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for community development and community enrichment. The City of Phoenix needs and deserves policing alternatives and investments in mental health and trauma services, education, and after-school care, adequate housing, healthcare, and employment opportunities.
I oppose the grossly disproportionate budget increase for the Phoenix Police Department. This proposed budget would go to the further militarization of the police force that has and continues to brutalize communities of color. Our city's elected leaders need to stand with the people of Phoenix and allocate a significantly higher amount of funds for community enrichment and development programs.
I oppose item 44 Adoption of the Tentative 2020-21 Annual Budget (Ordinance S-46650).
I believe we should re-evaluate where we are spending our funds. There is an obscene disproportionate amount of money put into "Public Saftey" already. We should focus more on funding things that would improve the community (education, public transportation, or the environment)
I strongly oppose increasing funding for the Phx Police department. We need to prioritize our budget on resolving the social, mental and health issues negatively impacting our community, issues that have led us to these tumultuous times. Please save our community by investing it it. Not giving the police more weapons to destroy it.
I demand ETHICS, HUMILITY, and that the Phoenix City Council allocate $3 million to the Office of Accountability and Transparency and Civilian Review Board in the 2020 - 2021 budget.
I strongly oppose the proposed funding for the Phoenix Police Department. They have proved themselves incompetent and a danger to our city. Instead please consider allocating these funds to community development, health, and sustainable infrastructures.
Reduce funding to the Police and instead allocate those funds to support the community and services that are critical right now to help those affected by the economic crisis, pandemic and systemic injustice. Additionally fund the civilian oversight board and establish accountability for the police to follow guidelines of the board.
I am a Phoenix native, resident and mother and I OPPOSE the budget allocations as proposed. You represent and work for us, the people of Phoenix. I demand that the Phoenix City Council allocate $3 million to the Office of Accountability and Transparency and Civilian Review Board in the 2020 - 2021 budget. Given the legitimate and documented brokenness of our system you have a responsibility to implement the will of the people in demanding oversight and action in this area immediately.

I am 100% for continuing financial support for the Phoenix Police. I am grateful for our police & we need them now more than ever!!!
