I strongly oppose the $944 million dollars to be placed in the pockets of a police department with one of the highest numbers of police brutality in our country. As a Phoenix citizen, I demand that the Phoenix City Council will fund the $3 million needed to the Office of Accountability and Transparency and Civilian Review Board. Money is power. And we must not give any more power to a community that does not have the safety of those they are intended to serve in mind.
I oppose the increase in funding to the Phoenix Police Department, funds should be allocated to the Office of Accountability and Transparency (OAT) and Civilian Review Board (CRB). Please reconsider funding to go towards more programs and initiatives that support and create safe and healthy communities.
Please reallocate funds from the police department and invest in community foundation building tools such as social workers, mental health professionals and education.
Our Community asks that you redirects funds from Phoenix Police programs that heal and educate our community.
The city of phoenix is statistically ranked highest in the country for cases of police killing civilians. Police forces across the country have proven that diversifying and implementing various trainings have not and will not end police brutality.
I demand that the Phoenix City Council allocate $3 million to the Office of Accountability and Transparency and Civilian Review Board in the 2020 - 2021 budget.
I urge you to redirect the proposed $25mil. increase for Public Safety to programs that heal & enrich our community. Increase proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for Community Development + Community Enrichment. Invest in mental health, trauma services, education, youth programs, after-school care, adequate housing, healthcare, and employment opportunities. Pass a budget that prioritizes your citizens and actively invests in police accountability & oversight by fully funding CRB + OAT.
As a 25-year resident of North Phoenix, I request that the council fully fund the long-overdue Police Citizen review board. I also request that 25% of Police Department funding be redirected to programs and practices that build the healthy and peaceful Phoenix we all want and deserve.
I demand that at least 25% of the Police funds be diverted to community, youth, mental health programs. The police is out of control and they are terrorizing our community. We need you to lead and support the community and not hurt the community. If you do not do this, public trust with police and the city council will continue to plummet! Mayor Gallego, do the right thing.
Approve the budget as is. Do not defund the police. They are all we have against lawlessness. I cannot even believe this is in question. I will move from Phoenix if the police are defunded as crime will escalate quickly.
I call our government to redirect funds from Phoenix Police to programs that heal and educate our community.
We're statistically ranked highest in the country for cases of police killing civilians. Investing more money in our police force will not end this brutality.
The city deserves policing alternatives and investments in mental health, trauma services, education, adequate and affordable housing, healthcare, and employment opportunities.
As a 40 year native Arizonan I have spent a LOT of money attending concerts, baseball games, festivals, and conferences downtown. I have always felt safe in doing so. Watching the PPD safely control the rioters and looters that disobeyed curfew on Monday night was a light in a very dark scary world. Due to their professionalism and expert execution in doing so, I continue to feel safe. Should defunding occur, I will no longer be able to enjoy events downtown due to safety concerns.
I would prefer that you invest less into the police department and more into community development. Please reconsider this budget to reallocate money from the police department and put it into community development.
I have been a Phoenix resident since 2005. I oppose the increase of funds to our police department. As a resident, it's apparent to me that those funds are being used to harm our community, especially seeing the violent reaction to peaceful protesters the past few days. Please allocate more funds to the citizen review board, public health, community enrichment, and community development.
I support giving the funds to Phx PD. Defunding the department would be counterproductive in moving forward with changes in the community. They are already conducting weekly events and immersing themselves to move forward and continue to make changes. Taking the money from them would be of more harm to everyone.
I strongly oppose the proposed 2020-2021 budget. We urge you to consider redirecting the funding to our community including programs that help with housing, education, healthcare, human services, and mental health. In addition, end collaboration between PHX PD and ICE! Defund PHX PD/Police!
This proposed budget provides an overwhelming amount to the police in comparison to other important programs that support people and communities in a positive way. Policing practices and systems in our country and Phoenix have been steeped in racist ideologies, so funds to the police either need to go towards reforming and teaching the #8cantwait, or it needs to go to other programs that need it. Police deal with symptoms of prior injustices, so let's target the initial injustices instead.

Please ensure the safety of our community and our officers by implementing best practices in policing. Demilitarize our police force.

Send more money towards education and reform rather than continuing to reward the police and punish minorities.
