I demand that the Phoenix City Council allocate $3 million to the Office of Accountability and Transparency and Civilian Review Board in the 2020 - 2021 budget and that police is defunded 25% with that money going towards programs that create safe and healthy communities. We do not want militarized police.

You have less than 3.000 officers serving and protecting the 5th largest city in the country and growing exponentially so why would you want to defund the operating budget?. I fully support the police and how they've worked tirelessly to protect the citizens of Phoenix during this trying time. This is not the time to create more divisiveness within the ranks of the police and citizens . We already have that with our mayor and city councilman Carlos Garcia..

Our city does not need more police funding. We need change and action for the community, which INCLUDES the black and brown community. The money used to fund the Phoenix police department ends up being used for violence that is justified by the law. Care about our community and invest in community programs meant for growth and justice.

I strongly believe that the Phoenix Police Department should not receive this funding. The community is pleading for the money to go elsewhere, such as the Education and Community outreach programs. By doing this, we are funding for a brighter future, not to mention the circumstances that we are going through right now, funding the Phoenix Police Department at this moment is the wrong move.

The Phoenix City Council should allocate $3 million to the Office of Accountability and Transparency and Civilian Review Board in the 2020 - 2021 budget. We need those very things, accountability and transparency, in order to make important changes to law enforcement practices, such as limiting the use of force and setting different policies and standards to emphasize de-escalation and hold law enforcement accountable when they violate policies and laws.

Please fully fund civilian review board of police department for $3m. Defund police if you have to. Police need to also have order and consequences. Families need and deserve an outlet for justice.

The City of Phoenix needs and deserves policing alternatives and investments in mental health and trauma services, education, and after-school care, adequate housing, healthcare, and employment opportunities.

I ask our city officials to please use this money for community development and investment in social work and mental health work. In the middle of a pandemic our community needs to come together to invest in mental health, education, housing, healthcare, and NOT arming our police. Reduction in police violence only comes from reduction in police resources and an increase in accountability. Reallocate that money to our communities.

The PPD is one of the most violent police forces in the country. You have a responsibility to reduce that brutality by defunding them. Reallocate funds for the PPD to solve the root causes of crime: lack of support + unmet basic needs. Redirect funds toward mental health + trauma services, education + after school care, adequate + affordable housing, employment opportunities, and sustainability + environmental programs. Solve two problems at once: reduce police brutality, and reduce crime.

I'm a business owner of 50 years in the Phoenix. My family and I fully support our Phx PD and the safety budget. Our business is in South Phoenix (District 8) and has been for 32 of the 50 years -- we rely on our Police! Thank you to our Phx PD for the dedication to protect and serve our community. We can't THANK YOU enough!

We ask that you redirect funds from the Phoenix PD and make investments into our communities. Studies have shown that putting more money into the police force only leads to heavy militarization of the PD and this paves the way for greater police brutality. It is not as simple as diversifying the police force or giving more money for them to find a course of action. While many argue that lower income communities demand heavier policing, we also demand better schools, libraries, and parks.

For far too long have we don’t nothing but sit by and be complacent when it comes to police brutality. The only way to fix this is to a strong stand, re-train officers, take out certain detaining techniques and so much more. We are progressively lacking when it comes to a proper police force.

Countless police murders occur in AZ, with Phx PD ranking at the TOP of the list since 2018 & 2nd since 2013 (security.org & mappingpoliceviolence.org). By funding Phx PD $944 Million & community development $51 Million, you are enabling the system in place and turning a blind eye to helping the community. There is a lack of trust & accountability with police & that must change. Reform must happen, not funding the assailants. Allocate funds to the low ranking education & poor healthcare system.
