De-fund the police by 25%, and move the money into programs that create safe and healthy communities such as hiring social workers as first responders in crisis situations for the entire community, including creating and supporting positions that provide preventative and intervention services to public school students.

Pass a budget that supports police accountability!
End collaboration between PHX Police and ICE.
Show us your plan to fund raise $3 million for the Undocumented Relief Fund.

I oppose item #44 because I believe there should be more money going towards citizens oversight. I do not think the Phoenix police deserves a increase in funding. I hope that with a fully-funded Office of Accountability and Transparency and Citizens Review Board so the city of Phoenix can begin to see real change to a broken system.

We desperately need to divert funding from the police and into communities. We do not need militarized police in our streets. The research has shown that body cams and implicit bias trainings do not work. We need police to be held accountable for their actions, and we need to take their money away. It's our tax dollars. Spend it the way we say to--money in the hands of the people for building communities, libraries, parks, programs for youth, the elderly, and homeless, NOT the police union.

As a resident of Phoenix I ask that you please reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our public safety department for the 2020-21 fiscal year and increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for community development and community enrichment. The City of Phoenix needs and deserves policing alternatives and investments in mental health and trauma services, education, and after-school care, adequate housing, healthcare, and employment opportunities.

The council made the right decision to establish civilian review. They must support it as well with a $3 million budget. Additionally, the $944 million allocated to PHX PD is an affront to the badly needed funds in community development and community enrichment budgets. Much of this money could be better spent elsewhere to support true public safety, not officer supplies and salaries. We call on you to reallocate this budget item to support the citizens of Phoenix.

I do not support the funding for the Phoenix PD. Those funds would be of much greater service to the public if they were allocated to the Office of Accountability and Transparency and Civilian Review Board in the 2020-2021 budget. The Phoenix PD is one of the deadliest in the country, and defunding should also help with community resources that provide service equitably to POC, especially in disadvantaged socioeconomic areas. We demand change.

I overwhelmingly oppose the $944,680,555 allocated to our Public Safety Department for the 2020-21 fiscal year; especially those funds which support a police department that is statistically ranked highest in the country for cases for police killings. I encourage the funds be redirected to increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for Community Development and Community Enrichment and invested in trauma, mental health, educational, and healthcare services.

I am against giving more funding to the PHX Police Department. These funds need to be given to Community Programs that benefit children and families.

My name is Isabella and I am a registered voter in Arizona and a resident of the city of Phoenix. I am commenting today to oppose the proposed increase in funds for the Phoenix Police Department. This money need to be reallocated into community development and community health which is underfunded at this time. Please consider the voices of many residents today in opposition to increasing the Phoenix PD budget, a measure that we believe would help prevent more violence in our communities.

I oppose the budget in its current form. I ask that you redirect funds from Phoenix Police to programs that actually keep our community safe. PPD is statistically the deadliest police force in the country. Diversifying PPD and implementing various training does not prevent their brutality. Phoenix deserves policing alternatives and investments in civilian police oversight, mental health, education, after-school care, affordable housing, and employment opportunities.

Considering Phoenix police are one of the most violent in the country (more shootings than NYPD in 2018) how can we justify spending so much supporting them when they have offered nothing but excuses for these actions. Divert funds from the phoenix police department to libraries and shelters, to places that have a record of helping the community not harming it.

Black Lives Matter. As a native Phoenician, I oppose the 2020-21 budget as it stands. Now more than ever we need to invest in our communities, our people and our future! Please allocate $3 million to the Police Civilian Review Board. This city and its leadership needs to demonstrate a commitment to dismantling racism and a system that is resulting in harm and the killing of people of color. Invest in systems and programs that lift us up, not tear us apart! Thank you.

Pass the budget! People are basing their opinion on race and not facts. Crime will rise without enough police. Crime comes in ALL races and genders. There needs to be more officers out policing to prevent this. There are many churches and community programs that lots of people do not take advantage of now or they are run out due to violence (plenty of proof downtown). Having a place to play does not stop a criminal from committing crime. Police do!

I strongly oppose the funding towards police department and would look to see more funding towards the review board as it will help our community as a whole.

To properly oversee the police department, the Civilian Review Board and Office of Accountability and Transparency must receive the funding of $3 million, the predicted cost. Justice should not be a budget issue. This program will ensure the safety of this city's people of color and limit the horrible police brutality our law enforcement has records of. Do not cut corners

I oppose item 44 because there needs to be funding of the civilian oversight board to increase police accountability in the city.

the public needs the support of the police not the politicians. They have their own private security detail

I oppose this budget in its current form, specifically with regards to the $944,680,555 allocated to our public safety department for tne 2020-21 fiscal year. Please redirect funds to programs that heal and educate our community by increasing the proposed budgets for community development and enrichment. The Phoenix Police Department is statistically ranked highest for cases of police killing civilians. The city of Phoenix needs and deserves policing alternatives and investments.

I demand that the current proposed budget of $944,680,555 for the public safety department is reconsidered. Rather, please redirect these funds to educate, heal, and support our community by increasing the current proposed budget for community development and community enrichment.

Please reconsider and adjust the allocations of funds ($944,680,555) for our Public Safety Department for the 2020-21 FY in favor of increasing funds for Community Development and Community Enrichment. Funding the Phoenix Police Department to this degree will only reinforce the poor tactics that perpetuate police brutality, especially toward people of color. Defund and reallocate in the best interest of our community and long-term safety.
