I 100% support establishing and funding the OAT and CRB! We DEMAND that police are held accountable. The police, not only in Phoenix, but across the world, have been abusing, murdering, causing harm and trauma to it's civilians without consequence. This ends NOW. We will no longer support or stand for this kind of behavior from those in power, and those who have taken an oath to protect us.

I am demanding that the Phoenix City Council allocate $3 million to the Office of Accountability and Transparency (OAT) and Civilian Review Board (CRB) in the 2020-2021 budget today. As a community we need to address the actions of police officers and encourage better choices, such as using de-escalating language and assuming a "warrior" approach when engaging with members of the public.

Please use your support and your leadership to properly fund this department.

Redirect the proposed budget for PHX PD to programs that educate, empower, and support our community. These funds need to be directed away from PHX PD and rather invest in mental health services, education, healthcare, adequate housing, and viable opportunities for all. The PHX PD is ranked one of the highest in the U.S. for police brutality and murder against civilians. Please hold them accountable so our community can thrive together safely.

I oppose allocating over $900 million for police funding while only about $25 million will go towards community development. It's absolutely clear given the recent state of our nation that our priorities need to change NOW. We must focus our efforts on uplifting and advocating for the most vulnerable in our community (i.e. people of color and all minorities). Consider decreasing the already well-funded police force budget and prioritizing helping those in our community who continue to suffer.

I oppose this budget how it currently stands. We demand that funding proposed for the Phoenix Police Department is allocated towards the Citizens Review Board so the board can properly do the jobs they were appointed to do (hold officers accountable, make timely decisions, use funding for data/research, etc.).

I am a resident of the Phoenix Metro Area and urge you to redirect proposed funds currently allocated to public safety for the 2020-21 fiscal year. Phoenix PD is one of the most violent forces in the country and does not make our community safer. We need to massively reduce its budget and put those funds into education, health care, housing, social work, drug treatment, and police oversight. We must invest in data-driven solutions that are proven to actually reduce crime.

I oppose the allocation of more than $900million to police funding. Instead, I support:

    1) Investing in schools
    2) Invest in community development and enrichment
    3) Invest in mental health treatment
    4) Invest in drug treatment facilities
    5) Creating a task force for Federal Review every officer involved shooting and in custody death
    6) Ban police tactics that are meant to impair people’s breathing including all restrictive choke holds
    7) End no-knock raids by police for non-violent offenses

I’m voting for increased funding of the Office of Accountability and Transparency and the Civilian Review Board. These are critical areas to review processes for accuracy and fairness and it is definitely needed.

I demand that the Phoenix City Council allocate $3 million to the Office of Accountability and Transparency and Civilian Review Board in the 2020 - 2021 budget.

Please reduce the funding for public safety and instead increase the budgets for the Office of Accountability and Transparency, the Community Review Board, and other programs that will more positively support our community. We need publicly financed supportive housing, community-based anti-violence programs, trauma services, and jobs for young people. Thank you!

I strongly oppose the draft ordinance for the 2020-2021 City of Phoenix budget as it stands. The amount of money specifically invested in the Police Department under the Public Service designation for general funding is roughly $591 million for general funding. Including special funding, over the last 3 years of budgeting there has been a $75 million increase without a reason (No increase in size of force, etc.) This money should be put towards specific programs mean to build the community.

As a lifelong Phoenix resident, I oppose the proposed increase to Phoenix PD funding. They have demonstrated a severe lack of accountability to the communities they are supposed to protect, and the funding would be better used to support critical social services in the City.

I strong oppose item 44 and urge that the Phoenix City Council reallocates it's overinflated budget for the Phoenix Police Dept towards sustaining a safe community as they have not been held accountable for their actions. Please consider funding programs that will heal and educate our community instead.

I strongly oppose the allocation of more than $900 million in police funding. I don't want my taxpaying dollars to go into supporting police brutality which further threatens Black and Brown lives. Please use these funds to increase the proposed budgets for community development and community enrichment.

I oppose the exorbitant allocation of funds to “public safety” with such a small allotment of funds devoted toward community development, with which a proper investment would work toward negating the need for law enforcement personnel in the first place. Make our communities safer by investing in opportunities and prosperity for its people.

I urge you to reconsider the proposed astronomical amount of $944,680,555 that has been allocated to our public safety department for the 2020-21 fiscal year. Our community asks that you redirect funds to programs that heal and educate our community. Increase the proposed nominal $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for community development and community enrichment. Thank you, in advance, for your consideration to this important matter.

Defund the police by 25% and put that money towards programs that create safe and healthy communities, pass’s budget that supports police accountability, end collaboration between PHX PD and ICE!

As a resident of the valley, I am requesting that a significant amount of the budget earmarked for the PPD be redirected to the Office of Accountability and Transparency. We need to ensure that this office is given the resources and powers it needs to allow for civilian led oversight and investigations into actions taken by the PPD and its officers. I also support the removal of any cooporation between the PPD and ICE.

I am contacting you to oppose the unnecessarily high amount of funding put towards the Phoenix police department. Consider putting this money towards community development, enrichment, and other aspects of our city. Our state is ranked 49th in education, this is unacceptable when we obviously have the funding to enrich our school systems. Put that nearly 1 billion dollars towards improving our cities in other ways; focus on mental health, education, police ACCOUNTABILITY, and community building.
