I oppose this budget how it currently stands. We demand that funding proposed for the Phoenix Police Department is allocated toward the Citizens Review Board so the board can properly do the jobs they were appointed to do (hold officers accountable, make timely decisions, use funding for data/research, etc.).
I demand that the Phoenix City Council allocate $3 million to the Office of Accountability and Transparency and Civilian Review Board in the 2020 - 2021 budget.
Please reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our public safety department for the 2020-21 fiscal year. Our community asks that you redirect funds to programs that heal and educate our community. Increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for community development and community enrichment.
I'm Brianna Spadafora, a Phoenix resident. I am commenting to ask that you reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our public safety department for the 2020-21 fiscal year. These funds should be redirected to programs that heal and educate our community. Increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for community development and community enrichment. Defund Phoenix PD and allocate 2020-21 city funds to policies and programs that will create and sustain a safe community.
Please reconsider the allocation of almost 75% of the total annual budget to Public Safety. I understand Fire and Emergency Services are also included in that amount, however spending almost 3x times as much on Public Safety as every other category combined sends the message that other aspects of our community are not worthy of our tax dollars. Investing more in community development and enrichment will benefit everyone.
As a black woman who NEEDS change for she and her community I support fully funding a Civilian Review Board and increasing the proposed $400k for the group tremendously. If there are funds to help white officers go free after an injustice there needs to be more than enough funds to fight and protect against those injustices.
Our community asks to redirect the funds from Phoenix Police to programs that heal and educate us. The City of Phoenix is ranked the highest in the country for cases of police killing civilians. Police forces across America have proven that diversifying and putting various training have not and will not end police brutality. The City of Phoenix deserves and needs policing alternatives, mental health/trauma services, education/after school care, good and affordable housing, healthcare, etc.
I oppose this budget how it currently stands. We demand that funding proposed for the Phoenix Police Department is allocated toward the Citizens Review Board so the board can properly do the jobs they were appointed to do (hold officers accountable, make timely decisions, use funding for data/research, etc.).
Instead of giving one of the most brutal police departments in the country a budget increase, how about reallocating these funds to protect and serve the community, since the cops are incapable of doing so. Reallocate these funds to increase the budgets for community development and community enrichment. Arizona wouldn't be last in education on a national scale if school districts received the kind of budgets that police forces do.
I strongly oppose and would like you to reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 for our public safety department for the 2020-21 fiscal year. Our community is asking that you instead increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for community development and community enrichment. I propose the Phoenix City Council allocate $3 million to the Office of Accountability and Transparency and Civilian Review Board. Phoenix is way past due to stand up for what is right!
Phoenix PD consistently ranks as one of the deadliest and most violent in the nation. Prioritize the health and safety of your constituents: divest from policing and invest in community enrichment, education, housing, and police oversight. I demand that the Phoenix City Council allocate $3 million to the Office of Accountability and Transparency and Civilian Review Board in the 2020 - 2021 budget.
I oppose the current proposed budget. At minimum 3 million dollars should be allocated to the Phoenix Police Civilian Review Board and additional funds allocated to law enforcement should be reallocated to other pubic services.
Please redirect funds from Phoenix Police to programs that heal and educate our community. $745,289,000 is excessive considering the City of Phoenix is statistically ranked highest in the country for cases of police killing civilians. Police brutality will not end by means of new training tactics and protocols. Policing alternatives need to be implemented. Investments in mental health, trauma services, education, healthcare, sustainability and environmental programs need to be focused on.

I oppose the amount of funding allocated to the Police budget and request that a portion of the funding be reallocated to community development programs.
From 2011-2018, AZ police fired at 627 people, killing 353. Phx PD has the highest number of shootings, with 201. This is what you are funding. In 2019 Phx PD had a budget of $721 million and that is being increased to $745 million. Taxpayer money should not go to a deadly police department who have among the highest rates for killing civilians in the country. Instead, allocate the funds to community enrichment - things that will actually help the community flourish and grow. Allocate $3m to CRB
I oppose the budget for the police department. Until the city takes seriously the topics of community oversight, deescalation tactics, and the types and use of weapons in our neighborhoods, I cannot support giving more money to the police department.
Phoenix City Council, Please allocate $3 million from PPD to the Office of Accountability and Transparency and Civilian Review Board. Please allocate $5 million from PPD to Phoenix public schools. I am sorry for the individual police officers who are working in a broken system. A slightly smaller budget will keep us safe while encouraging decison makers to focus more on the "Serve" part of "Protect and Serve"
I am demanding that the Phoenix City Council allocate $3 million to the Office of Accountability and Transparency and Civilian Review Board in the 2020 - 2021 budget on June 3rd.
