I demand that the current proposed budget of $944,680,555 for the public safety department is reconsidered. Rather, please redirect these funds to educate, heal, and support our community by increasing the current proposed budget for community development and community enrichment.

Police contact too easily leads to increased violence and hostility. Please consider the state of our country, and continue to fund the Civilian Review Board. Also, please shift police funds to areas of greater public value, including housing, transportation, community programs, and care for the environment. We live in a socio-economically and racially unjust society. Phoenix can lead in how we try to address that.

Please reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our public safety department for the 2020-21 fiscal year. Our community asks that you redirect funds to programs that heal and educate our community. Increase the proposed $24,760,741 and $26,837,104 budgets for community development and community enrichment.

Defund the Police PD and allocate 2020-21 city funds to policies and programs that will create and sustain a safe community.

The Civilian Review Board needs adequate funds to be successful- I demand that the $3 million in funds for the board be taken from the $944,680,555 dedicated to the police department.

I oppose this budget in its current form. The Citizen Review Board must be fully funded at $3 million. The funds that are needed for this should come from the police budget.

I oppose this because it is my important than ever to have police accountability.
Please fund the civilian oversight board.

Defund the Phoenix PD and allocate 2020-21 city funds to policies and programs that will create a safe community. Increase the proposed budgets for Community Development and Community Enrichment. The Phoenix PD is statistically ranked highest in the country for cases of police killing civilians. City of Phoenix needs and deserves policing alternatives and investments in mental health/trauma services, education and after-school care, adequate housing, healthcare, and employment opportunities.

The Phoenix PD is ranked highest in the country for killing civilians. The public safety and police budgets need to be highly stripped and distributed to alternatives, including mental health, trauma services, education, housing, healthcare, and employment opportunities. Also, these redistributed funds NEED to be geared toward helping Black people and all POC because they are currently NOT.

    DEFUND THE POLICE

    Sincerely,
    CAINAN

As a resident of Phoenix in District 4, I oppose the tentative annual budget. Increasing police funding is NOT the answer. Only investing in the community will lead to long term change and strengthening our community. I urge you to decrease the proposed funding for law enforcement by 25% and use that funding to invest in housing, arts, trauma services, and other community services. Criminalizing the community only further perpetuates violence and does nothing to solve real problems.

Our community asks that you redirect funds from Phoenix Police to programs that heal and educate our community. The City of Phoenix is statistically ranked highest in the country for cases of police killing civilians. Police forces across the country have proven that diversifying and implementing various trainings have not and will not end police brutality. The City of Phoenix needs and deserves policing alternatives and investments in mental health + trauma services, education + after-school

I oppose this budget how it currently stands. We demand that funding proposed for the Phoenix Police Department is allocated towards the Citizens Review Board so the board can properly do the jobs they were appointed to do (hold officers accountable, make timely decisions, use funding for data/research, etc.).

I oppose the proposed budget and believe the funds should be redirected to community resources and the Office of Accountability and Transparency. The Phoenix PD is the country’s deadliest police force, and it needs to be stripped down and reevaluated.

I am strongly opposed to the more than $900 million budget proposed for the public safety department. Now more than ever, we need to prioritize funding community growth over expanding and militarizing our police for if we ever want to dismantle opressive systems and combat police brutality. Instead, increase funding for community development and enrichment, and allocate $3mil for the civilian review board, to hold police accountable.

I do not support the funding for the Phoenix PD. Those funds would be of much greater service to the public if they were allocated to the Office of Accountability and Transparency and Civilian Review Board in the 2020-2021 budget.

I oppose the higher funding for law enforcement over our community and programs that are effected by having a suppressed budget.
