As a Phoenix tax payer I urge you to DEFUND POLICE NOW. PHXPD is the most lethal in the nation, does not face consequences, increasing their budget during a pandemic is not the answer.

We still don’t have bodycams of Dion Johnson’s shooting while he slept in his car. Why PHXPD was so violent with peaceful protestors. WHY DID POLICE HAVE MORE PPE than nurses and doctors? Take a stand a defund police now. I urge you to have a conscience, do the right thing for our communities and defund police.

I am a registered voter in Central Phoenix. I urge you to redirect funds from our city's police department and to instead leverage those dollars to strengthen other community services, especially those that promote the mental well-being of our communities, connect residents to housing, food, and legal resources, and broaden the information services of our libraries. Our police department was the second-deadliest in the country in 2019, so whatever you are doing isn't working.

Phoenix PD needs to be 100% funded. We need our Council to operate as a team and do what is BEST FOR ALL OF PHOENIX. Phoenix leads the nation in population growth for the 4th consecutive year. All the gangs and drug dealers came here from LA. We need to properly staff &equip our officers so that they have the resources to properly do their job and restore our great City.

Re-allocate the proposed $944,680,555 to our public safety department for the 2020-21 fiscal year. Instead, increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for community development and community enrichment. Phoenix needs policing alternatives and investments in mental health/trauma services, education/after-school care, housing, healthcare, & employment opportunities. Defund the Phoenix PD and allocate 2020-21 city funds to policies and programs that will create a safe community.

Defund the Phoenix police and fund the Civilian Review Board the full $3 million needed to provide oversight. Please reallocate the funds to non-violent responses like social workers and mental health care. Spend it on community enrichment or homelessness. But please do not give one more cent to the PPD, who have shown themselves to be against the values of Phoenix. I am embarrassed by the city I grew up in, who only makes national news for its violence and racism. Please re-write the story.

As a resident of Phoenix, I strongly oppose the budget in its placement of $944,680,555, to our city's police department. Our police district is ranked as one of the highest in police-civilian killings, and other critical programs are lacking in our area. We need to defund the Phoenix PD and reallocate it's funding toward ways to address housing issues, unemployment/employment opportunities, education, and other community development options.

I urge you to defund the police and put that money into housing, health, education, art and local organizations strengthening our community. The police only escalates violence. The current system does not work. For example, the vast majority of rapists never see the inside of a courtroom let alone get convicted and end up in prison. They become president. This system is not delivering what we want, which is presumably safety and an end to violence. It is causing additional harm.

I've lived in Phoenix for most of my life. I'm disgusted that Phoenix is statistically ranked highest in the country for cases of police brutality. How can we be proud of Phoenix when it's known for violence? Thus, I urge you to DEFUND THE PHOENIX PD. Instead, invest in the community. Invest in housing, the arts, sustainability, public transit, and the civilian review board. Make Phoenix known for taking comprehensive action against police brutality & systemic racism.

As a resident of Phoenix, AZ I urge you to please reallocate funds from the Phoenix police department and direct them towards community development and community enrichment. I echo the need for a civilian oversight board for the Phoenix Police Department that is transparent and community driven. Police brutality is a very real issue in our country and in our very own communities. Please adjust the budget and invest in our communities to truly protect and serve your people.

As a community member raised in the Maryvale community, I have witnessed the complete failure of effective outcomes with policing. The opposite has occurred; Phoenix has gained the reputation of having the most dangerous police with a total of 25 killings in 2018. I demand that the council finally be courageous and help the community by reallocating funds from the Phx PD to fund and create more community resources. Placing people in cages is not the solution. Give the money back to communities.

I strongly urge you to reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 to our Public Safety department. It is important that those funds be redirected back into the community, in an effort to heal and educate. Police forces across the country have proven that diversifying and implementing various trainings have not and will not end police brutality. Defunding the police department and alternative policing methods should strongly be considered to foster systematic change, which is desperately needed.

Defund the Phoenix Police Department. Reallocate their funding into affordable housing, community health (and mental health) centers, nutrition and employment programs, parks, libraries, and services for youth and family. We know through extensive research that robust social services are FAR more effective in reducing crime than the police. PPD has consistently resisted both transparency and community accountability. Reduce their funding immediately.

This budget does not reflect the values of our City. Please consider re-allocating the large increase to Phoenix PD to community based needs and solutions, like affordable housing, services for those experiencing homelessness, mental health resources, and organizations working on enriching the our City, not those who perpetuate violence, racism, and fear.

Defund Phoenix PD. Due to the fact that they are arresting peaceful protesters for no reason, constantly racially profiling people, and murdering people just because of the color of their skin. This will no longer be tolerated. This is beyond disgusting. This money needs to be used towards education the community on issues of race abd diversity. The way Phoenix currently stands makes me embarrassed to be a resident.

The City Council made a promise to create a Citizen Review Board for the Phoenix PD which was responsible for the most officer-related deaths in 2018. Over 2 years later, the city aims to underfund the CRB. The council has a commitment to manage money responsibly. Risking the lives of our black & brown community members is negligent. I oppose. This does not fully fund the CRB-an essential component to the change our city needs now. Defund PhxPD & reallocate the $721 million. Lives depend on it.

As an Arizona resident and taxpayer, I urge you to reconsider the $944 million budget for public safety and reallocate more of that money to community development and community enrichment.

Please listen to your citizens pleading for the reappropriation of funds allocated to the Phoenix police department. The escalation of violence on their behalf is unacceptable considering their oath to protect and serve our community. These funds would be better spent on initiatives that help sustain communities such as transportation, education, public housing, civilian review/oversight of police forces, etc.
