As a citizen of Phoenix, Arizona, I strongly oppose the budget in its placement of $944,680,555, to our city's police department. Our police district is ranked as one of the highest in police-civilian killings, and other critical programs are lacking in our area. Thus, the best course of action is to defund the Phoenix PD and move it's funding toward ways to address housing issues, unemployment/employment opportunities, education, and other community development options.

The budget in its current form allocated an irresponsible surplus of funding towards Phoenix police. That department has shown that they cannot be trusted to appropriately use those funds by focusing on escalating militarization of equipment and egregious OT. The recent national backlash of their aggressive tactics against their own taxpayers has only made them more combative and isolated from the rest of government. The only responsible option is to redirect their funding to public enrichment.

Re-allocate the proposed $944,680,555 to our public safety department for the 2020-21 fiscal year. Instead, increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for community development and community enrichment. Phoenix needs policing alternatives and investments in mental health/trauma services, education/after-school care, housing, healthcare, & employment opportunities. Defund the Phoenix PD and allocate 2020-21 city funds to policies and programs that will create a safe community.

The Phoenix police department is ranked highest in the country for cases of police killing civilians, police forces across the country have proven that different trainings for police & new equipment will not end police brutality and murder. The city of Phoenix needs to defund the police and instead invest in mental health services, trauma services, education, after school care, adequate housing, healthcare, and unemployment opportunities. DEFUND THE POLICE!!!

As a Phoenix resident, I strongly oppose the $944 million proposed public safety appropriation. I urge the council to instead consider directing these funds towards education, public housing, transportation and community enrichment to improve the quality of life of our residents and not to rely solely on policing as a means to prevent crime.

It is imperative that leaders within the City of Phoenix support the discourse of the community they serve. Recent events have shed light on problems within our city's law enforcement infrastructure. It is time to prioritize alternatives to policing that directly involve the community. Funds should be targeted towards systems that support their communities directly as a means of prevention, such as education, housing, healthcare (including mental health), and employment.

Too many police officers behaved so poorly towards protesters of police brutality. They have been given too much money and power to be acting like this towards the people that pay their salaries. Please redirect finds that will help the community such as education, homelessness, transportation, and health care.

Hello, as a tax payer I strongly advise that instead of giving public safety 944,680,555, you should give a huge portion of that money to education, human services, library funds, and to homeless shelters.

I support the current budget, including all police funding. The Police Department is currently UNDERSTAFFED for a city this size . I am a neighborhood leader and we work in total partnership with Desert Horizon Precinct and their officers. We need to continue funding the police at the rate in this budget. Crime in this city is increasing every year & we need more police not less. We would love to have the officers in our area that you don't want. No police, Let me know how that goes

Defund the police! That $944,680,555 could be better used for mental health services, community support, and public programs! Stop the militarization of what is already known as the most violent police department in America!

Please defund the phoenix police. Listen to your people. These funds should be shifted into community development and engagement instead of the police force.

    To whom it may concern,
Please consider reducing the budget on how much is spent on the police force. I believe that police officers could benefit from extra training in culture and bias. Please revise the budget and allot funds into different areas. Trainings will help impact the community especially if they know how to deescalte situations.
