The Phoenix Police Department is statistically ranked highest in the country for cases of police killing civilians. Police forces across the country have proven that diversifying and implementing various trainings have not and will not end police brutality. The city of Phoenix needs and deserves policing alternatives and investments in mental health and trauma services, education and after schooling care adequate housing, healthcare and employment opportunities.
Reallocate the funds and give them to the community. Public transportation, arts, schools, health services urgently need this money. The system has shown time and again that it is flawed therefore an influx of money will only contribute to more aggression and violence by the police force. There is no need for them to have military style equipment if they are supposed to be neighborhood and community protectors.

Defund the Phoenix PD and allocate 2020-21 city funds to policies and programs that will create and sustain a safe community.
I ask you to reconsider the proposed budget for the Phoenix Police Department that will bolster the most lethal police force in the US and move some of these funds toward the budgets for community development and enrichment. Aggressive behavior against peaceful citizens which is seen over and over again (not only in the last week) from the Police Department should not be rewarded. This community cannot handle any more bloodshed. As long as any one of our citizens lives in fear, we all do.
As a PHX resident, I strongly oppose the $994 mil. being allocated to PHX PD and I urge you to reallocate this money towards community resources, healthcare, education, transport and housing in the Black and Brown communities plagued by police brutality. PHX PD is one of the most dangerous police departments nationally with a long history of police brutality against civilians. There is no accountability for this behavior and you as the city council, must stand up for the citizens you represent.
Defund police! They are a part of a violent and racist institution. Instead, focus on investing into community safety efforts. Improved education, transportation, social services, and infrastructure will go much farther in our community.
More resources need to be spent on cleaning up 19th Ave and Dunlap. More resources for homeless to get them off the streets. The crime activity level there is significant and our residents and businesses suffer because of it.

Almost 74% of all the general funds to public safety? Put that money in Community Enrichment and Development and use it to help people. Fund education, healthcare, and housing and employment resources. Make the community stronger. The police escalate, scare people, and aren't held accountable. Why give them more when you could actually help people?
Defund the Phoenix PD and allocate those funds towards community resources. Our city needs more funding in areas such as housing/resources for the homeless, behavioral health services, public transportation, education, and environmental sustainability. The Phoenix PD have displayed that they are not here to protect us or listen to our concerns. They escalate situations and resort to violence on innocent lives specifically poc. We as a community and nation cannot continue to allow this behavior
As a registered voter of Phoenix, Arizona: I am asking you to reconsider the proposed budget allocated to our Public Safety Department and instead, redistribute the funds to programs that help and heal the community (particularly toward the budgets for Community Development and Enrichment). The city of Phoenix needs policing alternatives and investments in mental health and trauma services, after-school care, adequate housing, healthcare, and employment opportunities.
Redirect funding from "public safety" and "criminal justice" to "community development", "community enrichment", and "environmental services". Enhancing said services is more productive than a militarized response to protests about racial inequality, and, moreover, enhancing such services will, in part, fix systemic/institutionalized issues within the community.
The behavior of PHX Police in recent years has shown trends of targeting, violence, and disregard for human safety in our communities. Our loved ones don't deserve to be murdered, abused, assaulted, or turned over to ICE!
Phoenix City Council must have the courage to defy the police unions and stand with the community. Phoenix City Council should reduce funding to the Police Department and put that money into programs and services that make our communities healthy.
The PHX police department is statistically ranked highest in the US for cases of police killing civilians. Please reallocate funding from the police department and instead invest in much-needed services for the community in areas such as mental health, trauma services, education, after-school care, adequate housing, healthcare, and employment opportunity.
The police portion of budget needs to be reassessed. Police are sworn to protect the very citizens they are senselessly killing and they must be held accountable. Increase funding for an independent citizens review board now! Failure to do so will jeopardize freedom for everyone.
I urge you to reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our Public Safety Department for the 2020-21 fiscal year. Our community asks that you redirect funds to programs that heal and educate our community. Increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budget for community development and community enrichment.
Defund the police and reallocate the funds to community services such as: mental health services, healthcare, public education, public transit and other services that benefit our whole community. The PD violence should not be rewarded with more funding. Please add citizen oversight and fund programs that teach de-escalation, mental health aware tactics, and anti-racist curriculum.
I oppose the $944 million proposed public safety appropriation. I urge the council to consider redirecting these funds towards healing and educating our communities rather than funding those who abuse their power and are the most lethal in the US. We need investments in mental health, trauma services, education, and community development. Prevention before rehabilitation. Also, the funding for the Civilian Oversight Board should be approved and increased to greater than $400,000.
