I strongly oppose the $994M being allocated to the PHX PD. I urge you to reallocate funds from the Phoenix police department and direct them towards community development and community enrichment. I echo the need for a civilian oversight board for the Phoenix Police Department that is transparent and community driven. Police brutality is a very real issue in our country and in our very own communities. Please adjust the budget and invest in our communities to truly protect and serve your people.

I oppose this item. We must redirect funds to education, infrastructure, and community development. I do not condone the funding of an institution set on antagonizing civilians for the color of their skin/ethnicity.

There is no excuse for a policing budget of nearly a billion dollars while people sleep on the streets, while children go hungry, while classrooms go underfunded. A budget tells the story of a city's priorities; make ours one of community and compassion. Fund communities. Defund the police.

Minneapolis PD had already instituted what is considered progressive police reform (i.e. implicit bias training, de-escalation tactics, mental health training). George Floyd was still killed. The root of the problem is not surveillance techniques or extra training- it is police violence. As the criminal justice system is designed to disproportionally affect the disenfranchised, divesting police funds into programs like violence interruption and civilian oversight would be the least we could do.

I would like more funds to be allocated to community development and enrichment, and less to police. If we support our community (by funding education, mental health care, rehabilitation, housing programs, employment programs, public transportation, child care, etc.) there will be less need for police. I care about my fellow citizens, and believe more funds should go to programs and services that will provide people with more opportunities and help them live better lives.

I oppose the proposed budget of $944,680,555 to our public safety department, specifically the Phoenix Police department. As an alternative, increase the proposed budgets for community development and community enrichment. Phoenix needs policing alternatives and investments in mental health/trauma services, education/afterschool care, housing, healthcare and employment opportunities. Defund the Phoenix PD and allocate 2020-21 city funds to policies and programs that will create a safe community

I strongly oppose the massive and unnecessary budget allocated to our city's police department. The Phoenix PD is one of the deadliest forces in the US. This budget is a threat to the lives of citizens. Defund the Phoenix PD and allocate the money to the many other critical programs that are inadequately covered in the current budget proposal, including housing, transit, environmental programs, education, and other programs that will actually serve, rather than harm, the people of Phoenix.

I oppose this budget and demand that we defund the police, redirect funding to more social workers(at a living wage), more community based prevention programs, mental health workers, and publicly funded housing.

I am asking that the council defund the Phoenix PD and reallocate 2020-21 city funds to education, transportation, community development, and community enrichment. I do not condone the funding of an institution set on antagonizing civilians for the color of their skin/ethnicity.

As a resident of Phoenix, I ask you to reallocate this $944,680,555 to the budgets for community development and community enrichment. By investing in our communities, you will be enabling the expansion and creation of restorative justice programs, education, employment opportunities, after-school care, affordable housing, mental health and trauma services, and much more. I urge you to take this step toward making our city safer for all of our residents.

Defund the Phoenix police and fund the Civilian Review Board the full $3 million needed to provide oversight. These funds should be reallocated the better funding to non-violent responses like social workers and mental health care. Spend money on things that empower and uplift our community. Please do not give any more funding to PPD, who have shown themselves to be reckless with the lives and safety of the citizens they are sworn to serve and protect.

I strongly OPPOSE this tentative budget and believe that we need to cut funding for the Phoenix Police Department. There have been ample evidence to show how harmful and debilitating police brutality is to our community. Please redirect funds to other social services: housing, education, healthcare, public transit. Please listen to the community and its concerns. Please adjust the budget. Please invest in your community. Please take care of the people you serve.

Re-allocate the proposed $944,680,555 to our public safety department for the 2020-21 fiscal year. Instead, increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for community development and community enrichment. Phoenix needs policing alternatives and investments in mental health/trauma services, education/after-school care, housing, healthcare, & employment opportunities. Defund the Phoenix PD and allocate 2020-21 city funds to policies and programs that will create a safe community.

I am requesting that you reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our Public Safety Department for the 2020-2021 fiscal year. Our community asks that you redirect funds to programs that heal and educate our community. Increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for community development and community enrichment.

Defund the Phoenix PD and allocate 2020-21 city funds to policies/programs that will create and sustain a safe community.

    Sincerely,

    Mia C

Defund the Phoenix PD. Reconsider the reallocation of funding to enhanced services and enrichment for the community, such as affordable housing, education, healthcare, employment, resources for the homeless and disadvantaged, behavioral health, libraries, parks, and many other social services. Phoenix PD is one of the most dangerous departments in the US and should not be awarded add'l funding.
