I am requesting that you reconsider the proposed $944,680,555 allocated to our Public Safety Department for the 2020-2021 fiscal year. Our community asks that you redirect funds to programs that heal and educate our community. Increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for community development and community enrichment.

Defund the Phoenix PD and allocate 2020-21 city funds to policies/programs that will create and sustain a safe community.

    Sincerely,

    Ashley E

I support the proposed Police Budget. The chaotic, violent & destructive events of the last 5 nights in Phoenix have demonstrated just how important a fully staffed, trained & equipped Police Department is to Citizens. Although the Police Department has been mobilized & every member is currently working 12 hrs on/12 hrs off/7 days a week, it is still understaffed, due to reductions of police officers & budget cuts. Do not sacrifice the Public Safety of the masses to appease the whims of a few.

I strongly oppose the continued funding of the Phoenix Police Department. Our police department is one of the deadliest in the nation. There must be more accountabilities and reform in the way of defunding. I would like to see more money allocated to education and social services such as the civilian review board.

as a registered tax paying voter in Phoenix. I urge you our elected officals, redirect funds from our city's police department to instead use it to improve our community. especially those that promote the mental well-being of young and old, put roofs over those in need, food, & legal resources, & etc. Our police department was the second-deadliest in the country in 2019, Dion Johnson didn't deserve to die that alone is reason enough to defund a gang of hateful unqualified people in blue.

The Phoenix Police Department absolutely does NOT need that much of the budget allocated towards them. Cut the budget of Phoenix PD. Put the money back into social services where it belongs.

I am a concerned Arizona citizen and I am asking that you redistribute the outrageously high Phoenix PD budget to COVID support, unemployment support/resources, undocumented workers, education, and healthcare, public transit. Please hear and support the community that is asking you to do the right thing.

As a resident of Phoenix, AZ I urge you to reallocate funds from the Phoenix police department and direct them towards community development and community enrichment. I echo the need for a civilian oversight board for the Phoenix Police Department that is transparent and community driven. Police brutality is a very real issue in our country and in our very own communities. Please adjust the budget and invest in our communities to truly protect and serve your people

As a registered voter I am demanding that we do not increase funding to the police. When I see and have personally experienced (as a law abiding citizen) 3 to 4 police vehicles pull up on people for something as small as a light being out at a traffic violation, that means there are too many police on the streets. Put the money towards programs that truly serve the public such as education, parks, public transportation.

Reallocate PPD funds to productive--rather than violent and destructive--community resources. Invest in youth programs, employment and affordable housing initiatives, mental health and addiction services, diversity training, public transit, parks, libraries. Invest in programs that proactively serve your citizens, rather than throwing money at violent policing. I hope Phoenix will be among the first major US cities to stand on the right side of history by significantly decreasing police funding.

The city is speaking and we need you to listen. Phoenix does not need more funds allotted to policing. Instead what we need is more resources focused on housing, education, and healthcare. Phoenix police department is not keeping our communities safe. Instead they are killing us. Our district has the highest rate of police to civilian killings. We need to prioritize the lives of our community members and focus on ensuring their safety and well-being.

Apply 100% of the PD budget to community resources known to reduce the need for direct public safety intervention. Ask the communities most in need to specify where the money goes. Pledge to retrain/hire officers who have integrity into suitable new jobs created by the reallocation.

Defund the police and reallocate funds back into the community; invest in housing, the arts, sustainability, public transit, and the Civilian Review Board so it can fully do its job. Invest in your people and social services so the "need" for police is lesser. Violence from the people we are brought up thinking will protect us is wrong. You have the power to make sure that stops.

Please listen to your citizens. Many of us want public funds reallocated away from public safety. Please move funds to other areas of service such as public education, community development, public parks, public health, and community enrichment. In this time when budgets are being slashed to accommodate shortfalls due to the pandemic, community services (not public safety) need funding more than ever.

While teachers still go underpaid and overworked, it would be ridiculous to increase the budget of the Police, who have only shown themselves to misuse funds by making unnecessary arrests, causing unnecessary jailings, unnecessary courts cases, and unnecessary costs every step along the way, including housing costs for prisoners. Throwing more money at the police will not fix officer problems, giving more money to education will fix teachers' problems.

Phoenix PD employs over 100 officers with substantiated histories of dishonesty, according to public records obtained by ABC15. Those officers are being paid $70-130K each per year. Let's stop employing officers with integrity problems and use that money to create a real citizens review board.

Reallocate funds towards more beneficial programs for our communities especially in behavioral health services. Invest in prevention programs, resources for low ses communities, supportive housing, and counseling rather than the cycling Individuals from in and out of jail without resources for change. These promote change and growth instead of taking punitive action.

Phoenix Police is vastly overfunded in comparison to many other departments that fall flat in comparison as outlined in the proposed budget. We need investments in housing, community resources, sustainability programs, and public transit, along with many other services that are essential to the health of the community. I strongly urge you to defund Phoenix PD and and instead invest into the future of this city, not into more tools for violence against the most vulnerable in our city.
