As a lifelong Phoenician, I strongly oppose the funneling of money into the PHXPD. I plead with all to vote no. More money for police DOES NOT and WILL NEVER mean safer communities. VOTE NO

I would like to see our city council follow suit of other cities that are taking meaningful action to defund police departments, which I feel have been receiving way to much of our city's budget, towards other pools in the budget like community development, community enrichment, and housing, which I feel would have a much better long term affect on the many challenges our city faces, such as crime, drug use, homelessness, etc. Please move to significantly defund the police budget and reallocate.

I demand that the City Council vote NO on the 2020-21 budget on June 17th. Phoenix needs more mental health services, youth programs, after school care, adequate housing, and employment opportunities, NOT an increase in police funding. Especially in the middle of a global pandemic, only $242 million to housing, human services, and community development is NOT enough. The $745 million spent by the council on policing should be moved to police REFORM and education REFORM and education FUNDING.

I urge the city council to vote NO to the 2020-21 fund budget. The Phoenix PD is over funded and has continued to show ineffective. I believe it’s time that we give other departments more funds to help our community like education, community development, and housing.

This is a pivotal moment. Imagine what type of decade we'll have if we structurally empower the people, invest in the children, and learn to solve problems in a variety of ways, and not just with armed police. The PD would be better off dissolved and reinstated. They abused my brother who has a mental health diagnosis. They are deadly. They are already entitled and feel immunity because of so much money and power. We need balance, not coercion. Let Phoenix be the rich, success culture we are.

I oppose the budget as written with so much money going to the police dept. I instead would prefer to see money allocated to health, education, housing, and clearly the technology the city runs on because this comment submission is a nightmare.

I support the budget as stated. Our police force has been underfunded for years. It's time to provide the funding for hiring, training, and equipment to support the police force that protect our community.

Vote no. Reducing the budget of the police department and reinvesting in social services, education, arts, and small business development will help the community more.

I strongly oppose the over-inflated budget allocated to the police department. The Phoenix police are the deadliest police force in the country and solve crimes at a rate well below the national average. It’s embarrassing that we give them gobs of money and expect no accountability from them. It has to stop. Reallocate those funds to programs that lift up the community, not beats them down.

As a community leader and someone that is in the community everyday. I DEMAND APPROVAL of agenda as is. DO NOT reduce budget to Public Safety (Police). CofP saw first hand what happened with hiring freeze. We saw a great number of highly qualified, public safety driven officers retire. Hiring, Training and providing equipment to do the job that no one wants to do is needed. I support a law abiding city with actions not a lawless criminal sanctioned city. Approve Budget as is. PLEASE!!!

I oppose Ordinance S-46715, I have lived in Phoenix for 30 years and I believe the police department has inadequately demonstrated its ability to use our tax money competently, make any of my communities feel safe, or shown any compassion to the black and brown communities that define Phoenix culture. Please divert funds and invest in public programs that support public housing, schools, and adequate health care systems that statistically function better than police-based programs.

I demand that Council listen to the voices of Phoenix residents and defund Phoenix Police Department. Time and time again PPD have proved that they are violent, racist, and beyond reform. It is the moral and civic responsibility of Phoenix City Council to follow the lead of Black organizers who are offering a safer world, one in which communities live full and healthy lives without fear of being murdered by state cops. Defund PPD and invest in healthcare, education and affordable housing NOW.

we need to defund the police and these/those funds for arts, community, other plans to keep ALL of the community safe, there have been murders in broad daylight by the police, we need to diversify the funds, defund the police and invest into our children and the betterment of the future

I strongly oppose the $744 Million police budget. Please Vote NO for the proposed budget. Phoenix needs better access to mental health services, youth programs, adaquate housing and employment opportunities. Building up our community should be number one priority. Thank you.

VOTE NO. I am horrified that we can absolutely find a better use for this money and choose not to. So before you vote today, answer this: Why is adding $25 million to a budget spent on stockpiles of ammunition, riot gear, and tear gas more important to you than the health of our children and the livelihood of our communities? Vote NO. Vote for us, truly.

I oppose the budget for the coming year. I believe more funds should be allocated for education. Schools should be able to have opportunities to quality design that will improve the safety of future students. Currently, the issue of school shootings is still an imposing challenge for designers dedicated to education, like myself. The main factor that keeps schools from attaining better designs is the lack of funding. Also, more funding towards improving schools in impoverished areas.

The City Council must vote NO on the 2020-21 budget on June 17th. As a medical student, I serve my community, as I hope policy makers do too. So WHY is the police budget obscenely high when crime is reduced most by community & youth programs, education, and mental health services by 50+%? Why are calling barely trained cops with guns for community issues? Why are we placing this heavy burden on cops alone? Reduce their budget by 25% and redirect this to the community to see crime plummet.

The establishment and funding of the Office of Accountability and Transparency is a measure you took to address the insidious violence of this city's police department. This is both an admission of a problem with our police as well as a step forward. However, a vote to increase the police budget would be a wildly duplicitous slap in the face to our community, and a grievous step backwards. More money for police does not mean safer communities. Vote no.

As a resident of Phoenix I would like to state my strong opposition of the bloated budget and additional funds given to the Phoenix PD. I would also like to state my strong support of allocating those funds to other areas that are in desperate need of resources such as CPS and those social workers who tend to the most vulernable of us, children. I also would like to point out the huge amount of recorded violence the Phx PD have amassed in comparison to every other city outside of AZ. Action now!

I have lived in Phoenix my whole life, and I am sick and tired of this trend of increasing the budget for police while the number of civilians they murder with impunity also increases. This must come to an end, because it has been proven across the country that diversifying and implementing various trainings will not end police brutality. My city something new, like investing more money in mental health and trauma services, education and after-school care, affordable housing and healthcare.
