As a resident of Phoenix,I strongly oppose the $744M to the Phoenix PD. The funds need to be redirected into healthcare, social services, education and our communities.

Instead of relying entirely on police departments and the criminal “justice“ system, we should be investing in the residents and community organizations that have always had the capacity to control crime, but have never had the resources to do so in a sustainable way. Only allocating $242 million to housing, humans services and community development is NOT enough. The $745 million that has been allocated for policing should be allocated into community youth programs, mental programs, etc.

Please understand that we do not want any more violence. How can a pay raise be justified when our teachers aren’t being paid and our schools are underfunded? Why is it more important for you to overfund the police than to give a lasting education for our children? Why is a pay raise even being proposed when these officers are taking lives? Innocent lives. Young lives. Black lives. Lives that should be being lived right now. How can you justify these MURDERERS? Please, do the right thing.

I'm not going to repeat what has been said. Even the "support" comments on here appear to be confused and either didn't review HOW MUCH is going to the police *or* really oppose this budget.

    So, please fix the budget.

Vote NO to the current proposed Police funding. The city of Phoenix needs to address the core of the issue and invest in programs that will actually improve our communities. People need mental health options, and housing, not a night in jail.  Children need after school programs and better funding for education to set them up for a more successful future. It has been proven that these are the things that will lower crime in our communities, not a larger and more militarized police presence.

I demand that the City Council vote no on 2020-21 budget today. The budget includes a $25 million increase in funding to the Phoenix PD, one of the deadliest police forces in the nation, while affordable housing, human services, and community and economic development remain underfunded. Why is adding $25 million to a budget spent on stockpiles of ammunition, riot gear and tear gas more important to you than the health of our children and the livelihood of our communities?

I have lived in Phoenix my whole life, and I am sick and tired of this trend of increasing the budget for police while the number of civilians they murder with impunity also increases. This must come to an end, because it has been proven across the country that diversifying and implementing various trainings will not end police brutality. My city something new, like investing more money in mental health and trauma services, education and after-school care, affordable housing and healthcare.

There are better things to put that funding to then the police. Please consider putting those funds towards something that needs it more.

Phoenix has a real opportunity to take a step back and think about the future it wants to create for ALL its citizens. You have hundreds of people in the last few weeks petitioning the government to do the right thing, and put people first. Please do not allow unelected officials (the city managers) command this process by complaining about the work it will take to shift our priorities to be more community focused, and not violence focused. Defund the police, and fund the people. We need it.

I am in opposition of the nearly $1B public safety budget, and believe the money should be delegates among other institutions that are short many resources and cash. No militarized police weaponry, no need for 911 calls for nonviolent situations, etc.
Phoenix is so much more than a police force.

City council, PLEASE vote against a budget that allocates only $242 million to housing, human services, and community development combined and then $745 million to the police. Our police are over-funded and we need more money to our communities! So before you vote today, answer this: Why is adding $25 million to a budget spent on stockpiles of ammunition, riot gear, and tear gas more important to you than the health of our children and the livelihood of our communities?

I strongly oppose the over-inflated budget allocated to the police department. The Phoenix police are the deadliest police force in the country and solve crimes at a rate well below the national average. It’s embarrassing that we give them gobs of money and expect no accountability from them. It has to stop. Reallocate those funds to programs that lift up the community, not beats them down.

Support our community programs and health services essentially during this time of pandemic, rather than giving the police more money to tear gas innocent people with grenade launchers. It’s despicable and seems like a no-brainer, but here we are. Please allocate funds AWAY from the police and TOWARD our communities.

There are better things to do with your money. Please support community organizations rather than further perpetuate policing and violence.

I fully oppose the budget. VOTE NO on the 2020-21 budget. de-fund the police. invest in schools. invest in mental healthcare. invest in actual care for our citizens instead of mass incarceration.

Absolutely not. This is not a time to take advantage of a situation for the worse. There is a very clear solution to work for the people and for the people to work for you. Reallocating the budget to help programs for children, providing more housing opportunities for everyons including the homeless, help build a better community, and create an economic system that'll strive. The current budget only shows disgust towards the people and a chance for oppression. We need love, not civil war.

Crime exists due to two factors, greed and lack of access to recourses. Either you have it all and its not enough, or you take because you don't have anything. Defunding the police department and giving those funds to those who truly need it will eliminate some of the crime due to recourse scarcity. Demilitarizing police and giving those recourses will decrease crime, including the crimes police are allowed to commit. Redirecting these funds towards the community is a moral obligation.

Due to having one of the most violent police forces in the country, The city of Phoenix needs to distribute less money to the police and more towards education, community health, and behavioral health.

I oppose the 2020-2021 budget. We need to reallocate the budget evenly to help support and better our community in education, the mentally ill, and housing.
