I demand that the City Council vote NO on the 2020-21 budget on June 17th. Phoenix needs more funding for sustainability and public health, not an increase in police funding. Especially in the middle of a pandemic, only $242 million to housing, human services, and community development is NOT enough. The $745 million spent by the council on policing should be moved to programs designed to strengthen our community. Phx PD is not equipped with the expertise to provide such services to the public!!

I strongly oppose any more funds being allocated to our current policing system. Phoenix police has one of the nations highest rates of police brutality so instead we should allocate these funds to education, mental health care and public housing.

I strongly oppose the increase for funding for PHX police. As a resident of downtown Phoenix, I see the effects of low funding for mental healthcare as well as zero housing opportunities for those in need every single day. We need to enrich our community, not spend more on the police who arrest these people only to dump them back into the street with no help or resources.

I oppose a budget increase for the Phoenix Police Department and insist we redirect the funds to community programs. Education, mental health, public health, affordable housing, and economic development is where the funds are needed! Please allocate these funds to programs that better serve our community.

I oppose the increase funding of the police under Public Safety, and support the investment in community development, housing, and water.

I strongly oppose the propose 2020-2021 budget and urge the City Council to vote NO. The amount of money that is being given to the Phoenix Police Department (the 4th most violent in the country!!) is a reward for bad behavior. That money should be allocated to programs that serve the community, like homeless shelters, affordable housing, mental health care, and education.

I oppose this in hopes that funds will be allocated to the companies and resources that are productive in reducing crime by giving our community the opportunities and means to support their needs as humans to survive. To be productive and to create a safe and secure future, we must ban together to help one another rather than leaving it in the hands of those that have yet to invoke change in our society. We are a community that should run beyond bias and encourage a helping hand.

I'm a resident of District 3 and I strongly oppose increased funding for Phoenix PD and urge the City to instead redirect Phoenix PD's shockingly high $745 million budget to other services, such as mental health services, community development, and affordable housing. It is appalling that the city is proposing cutting other departments' budgets by potentially as much as 25%, while also proposing a salary increase for Phoenix PD. I ask the Council to vote no on the proposed budget.

I strongly oppose this item. Police should not receive excess funds for their budget in 2020-21. These funds should be allocated to programs that better serve our communities.

I strongly oppose the 2020-2021 budget on June 17th and urge the City Council to vote NO. Phoenix needs to invest more in the betterment of low-income, predominantly black and brown communities. Consider reallocating the increased funding to the police to fund public housing, mental health, free child care, and early childhood education programs. With the recent spike in COVID-19 cases, the $745 million is better spent on funding programs that will heal, relieve, and uplift our communities.

I oppose this budget and demand that funds be redirected to areas that can empower the community such as housing, human services, community and economic development and education/school counselors. Additionally, we should follow the lead of San Francisco and LA to have non-violent calls redirected to unarmed professionals trained to deal with homelessness, drug addiction, mental health and school campuses in lieu of police. Defund police and fund every other facet of our communities!

Please listen to the voices of the people, the community, and the nationwide protests and divest funding from the police into avenues that can better support the community — education, affordable housing, mental health care, public spaces and parks. The police budget is disproportionate to everything else and it shows — Arizona is one of the worst states in the country when it comes to education. We can make a change, and we are long overdue for one. Vote NO!

As an AZ voter, I demand that 25 percent of the police funding be reallocated to mental health services and after school programming. Vote no!

The people of Phoenix have spoken. I urge the Phoenix City Council to vote NO to the 2020-21 operating funds budget. Valuable departments like community and economic development, education, housing, mental health, and human resources are scarce in comparison. The constant increase to the police department has proven to be inefficient. Please vote no and consider reallocating the funds where we need it most.

I strongly oppose this proposed budget for agenda #24. Please redirect these public funds into new services and institutions like public health, schools, recreation, and housing. We are currently have a large population of house less people DYING in the heat. HELP the people of Arizona. How can you justify 75% of a BILLION dollars to
    Police for this year alone?

Please listen to the voices of the people, the community, and the nationwide protests and divest funding from the police into avenues that can better support the community — affordable housing, public transportation, public spaces, and parks. The police budget is disproportionate to everything else and it shows. We can make a change, and we are long overdue for one. Vote NO!

The Phoenix City council needs to start accepting responsibility for the failed policies and practices which have led to people wanting to defined public safety. Public Safety can only operate under the rules and laws made by lawmakers and city Council. you have no one to blame but yourselves for the decisions and options public safety will have with lack of funding. If you defund/ disband public safety then there is no need for an office of transparency or any other oversight committee.
