I'm a Maricopa county resident urging you to vote no on this budget. Defund the police, invest in our community. To “fight crime” we don’t need more military-grade cops and $25 million worth of stockpiles of ammunition, riot gear and tear gas, we need well-funded programs and systems that address our basic needs. There’s less crime when there’s more jobs, more educational opportunities, more arts programs, more community centers, more mental health resources.

Do not take from our police officers budget. Taking from them is not going to make the general public act responsibly.

I oppose an increase in funding for Phoenix PD. Redirect those funds back into community programs (social/health/mental services). Put Phoenix on the map for something good for once.

The budget allocates an outsized amount of money to our militarized police force. The $745million re-allocated from the police budget into community programs that address the root cause of crime would be a far healthier and smarter investment of our tax dollars. A bully should not be rewarded for bad behavior and the continued violence and lethality of Phoenix PD shows they do not deserve a cent of our city's budget. Move those dollars away from Police.

As a Phoenix citizen I oppose an increase in funding for the Phoenix Police Department (PD). Phoenix PD funds should be redirected to community programs, education, housing assistance, and mental health programs that are proven to reduce crime rates. Increased Phoenix PD funding, even if it is for body cameras, will not decrease crime rates. Thank you.

I implore Phoenix city council to vote NO on the 2020-21 Operating funds budget. Funds should be redistributed amongst Mental health services and affordable housing. Phoenix should be taking care if it’s community first and foremost.

Allocate the money toward the communities of Phoenix and for the well being of our citizens but if the council decides to keep the budget as is, invest the money toward bettering the PD. Look into creating mandatory therapy sessions or different training that has proven it’s worked. We need a safer environment both publicly and privately, as well as mentally and emotionally. Those who don’t want to comply can look into a different area of work if they’re not willing to make a change.

Kate Gallego- please do not sign over this insane amount of money when it is becoming so obvious how unnecessary it is. Listen to your constituents. Defund the police.

We need to redirect funds from law enforcement into social services. Our community members should have other options for help when law enforement is not needed. Police officers do not have the appropriate training to responsibly handle situations where mental health is an issue. Additionally, we need to increase funds for our homeless community members valleywide and address the lack of affordable housing crisis that our city faces

The very basic job of government is to keep the citizens safe. Police and fire should lose no funds what so ever. In fact if you want highly qualified and highly trained individuals then you actually need MORE funding. Anyone with common sense would understand that.

These funds should be distributed to other essential areas of community services.

As a resident I oppose an increase in the Phoenix police budget. It is disproportionately high relative to what is given to housing, education, healthcare services, transportation, sustainability. The community of Phoenix needs better funding for community resources! Better education and more resources for mental health will lead to less crime. Invest in education and mental health and we will not need a police budget as excessive as the one proposed.

Please do not take funding from the Police Department for any reason. The budget process has been approved as voted on at the last meeting. It is unacceptable that radical anti police groups continue to attack the police department with their demands and threats! You represent all citizens of Phoenix and are responsible for the safety of all! Eliminating any funding will place citizens in extreme danger when calling in emergency situations. Leave the budget as approved!

I strongly oppose this proposed budget for agenda #24. Please redirect these public funds into new services and institutions like mental health counselors, education, housing, and recreation programs. I strongly encourage this Counsel to listen to the voices of the people within your city and think deeply about the choices you are making to provide “safety”. Safety, safeguarded by violence is NOT safety. Now more than ever, it’s time for YOU to shift the outcome of police brutality in Arizona

I oppose the increased funding. The funding should be allocated to community programs, health programs, education etc which would lower crime rate.

We must support men and women of Phoenix Police Department, defunding them would be irresponsible. The citizens of Phoenix deserve protection and to feel safe. With less policing it is the citizens that live in poorer neighborhoods that suffer. If our community leaders would support our responders rather than fight against to feed political mob, our community would thrive. Please support law enforcement - pass this budget & with verbal support not political negativity. Keep Phoenix safe!!!!
