I strongly oppose the adoption of this budget. I fully support funding the community in a positive way and not one that threatens the lives the people within it.
I oppose increased funding for Phoenix PD. Please allocate those funds to services that actually protect and enrich our community—social services, public health, and education.
As of today, 6/17/2020, there have been 27 officer involved shootings in Maricopa County since the beginning of the year. Many countries around the world do not see these numbers in these numbers in whole decades. Until substantial evidence is provided the Phoenix Police Department has a plan to drastically reduce violent practices, I strongly oppose an increase in funding.
I strongly oppose increasing funding for Phoenix PD. The funds should go towards our education and especially health because the increase of covid-19 infections.
Voting to defund PPD during these unprecedented times would be irresponsible. These men and women are charged with an extremely difficult task in protecting our citizens. Allocating additional funds for social outreach and development is important and needs to be explored but not at the expense of law enforcement.
I oppose the budget increase for the Phoenix Police Department and insist the City of Phoenix divert funds to invest in community services. The Phoenix PD is recognized as the deadliest force in the country, our citizens deserve better. We must fund education, social programs, mental health care, public health and community services instead.
DEFUND PHX PD. I oppose the proposed phx budget plans that unfairly allocate the money that spends less on community enrichment and development like housing and education, and spends an excess amount of policing.
I demand that the City Council vote NO on the 2020-21 budget on June 17th. Phoenix needs more education and mental health, not an increase in police funding. Especially in the middle of a pandemic, only $242 million to housing, human services, and community development is NOT enough. The $745 million spent by the council on policing should be moved to social services to help the population experiencing homelessness, education, and mental health resources. Invest in lifting up, not shooting down.

Funding should be going towards better school systems and towards outreach for the community. To solve the crime problem we must first invest in our community, solve the problem do not just solve how to punish the problem. By funding the police department we are only allowing for more violence to happen and creating destruction in our community.
Our city needs more money invested in education and programs to help police deescalate problems. They are vastly overfunded as it is and it’s not good for our citizens
How can we possibly justify investing 73.85% of our total budget on the police? Please invest in our communities! Invest in education, health, and renewable resources. It is time to address the root of the problems (systemic oppression and poverty) rather than the symptoms (crime rates and homelessness). Communities that invest in their people have far lower crime rates than those who do not. It is time for change.
Giving the Phoenix Police Department a $25 million increase for salaries when they are one of the most lethal police forces in the country seems like willful ignorance on the part of the Council and the Mayor, or worse, apathy to the demands and concerns of the community you are elected to serve. Be the leaders you portend to be. Prioritize people over policing. Vote no.
Use funds to support actual beneficial community programs - not the police who have shown time and time again that they are unfit to serve the community in a way that is needed!
I am a long standing resident of Phoenix. I work in water law and have been on the front lines protecting residents from water shortages. As an extention of my dedication to Phoenix residents, I oppose the increase in funding to the PHX PD. Phoenix PD has been given increasingly higher budgets out of convience rather than reason. That money belongs in social services, mental health and education.
I strongly oppose the adoption of this budget. The community, healthcare, and education desperately need these funds; the police do not. Please re-allocate the budget towards healing and building our community. We are still #1 in police killings and #1 in COVID cases in the country. You have the power to help us.

Strongly oppose! The funds should be dispersed more responsibly for community needs.

YES TO COMMUNITY HEALTH

Use these funds for education and affordable housing where they are needed. Not with the Phoenix police department.
