Allocating so much of our budget to a PD that cannot be trusted to keep all of our citizens safe is a mistake. Anyone who has spent time in phx can see just how much that money is needed to support our most vulnerable populations and actually improve the city that we live in, rather than pay 744 million dollars for a PD who can’t stop killing people. Continuing to fund such a lethal and racist police force is truly an embarrassment when that money is desperately needed to support our city.

My name is Jo Anna, a Phoenix resident and case manager serving our vulnerable populations. Regarding community development, it is illogical to allocate large amounts of funding towards punitive interventions like police. Instead, funds would be better used and effective in the community and organizations with professionals better trained and educated to address social problems. Militarized interventions on civilians is a response that of tyranny and oppression. I trust the council would agree.

I strongly oppose any budget that increases the phoenix police department especially one that is proposing to allocate more than $700 million. This allocation should be redirected to services, programs and initiatives that directly help, nourish and enrich the community of Phoenix. I am strongly against funding a cent more to one of the deadliest police departments in the nation. The budget should reflect the needs of the people; education, nourishment programs, mental health services.....

I urge all council member to vote no on this agenda item. Please restructure the city funding to community departments that help the safety of our community especially vulnerable populations. The community is no longer safe with the police department because we have seen too many deaths & wrongful incarcerations at the hands of the police department. In order for a city to prosper it’s citizens must feel & see support from its leaders.

I am a Phoenix resident that strongly opposes the Phoenix police budget and demands that the City Council vote NO on the 2020-21 budget on June 17th. The Phoenix pd does not keep our community safe. Money that is budgeted to the Phoenix pd needs to be reallocated to social services and programs in community development & enrichment, education, housing, and healthcare. We need more social services, not more money to the Phoenix pd.

I strongly oppose the council allocating $744million to the Phoenix police department. These funds should be redirected towards social serivces, healthcare for all, housing for all, and invested in communities of color. There should be no reason murders aka Phoenix PD gets funded while there are people living in tents just 2 blocks from the police station. Consider this as a step to completely abolish the police department so that my communities can live without fear of death or deportation.

I live in District 7 and I strongly OPPOSE this budget as it stands. We're in the middle of two pandemics right now - racism and Covid-19. Both can be helped immensely by moving funds away from the enormous police budget and into community, economic development, housing, youth, and human services. This is not about politics, this is about people. And we the people need you to hear us and create a new budget centered around the community.

This budget is disproportionate to the needs of the people in Phoenix. Spending this much money, this much of the budget, on Police is so incredibly harmful. The police are not keeping us safe, they are killing us. The police killed Dion Johnson for sleeping. This money needs to be spent to help us not hurt us. Buy more shelter beds. Invest in affordable housing. Give us free transit. We can’t survive in this city with so many police who kill with impunity. Defund PPD.

Please consider putting our community needs first and not allocating $740 million dollars to fund a police department that has been proven to evoke more violence than justice. As a Phoenix resident, it is imperative that our funding goes to support programs that will uplift our community and not focus on the police and violent tactical needs of a police department that shows no remorse for its citizens.

I urge all council members to vote no on the proposed budget and immense money it gives to the Phx PD. You have an opportunity to become part of a historic turning point in the otherwise long history of those in power abusing the most marginalized in our communities. Your choice is clear. You can either act as you were elected to act--on behalf of the people. Or you can shun your responsibility and become another negligent or odious participant in the dehumanization of our brothers and sisters.

please listen to the people of phoenix and see that EVERYONE WANTS TO DEFUND THE POLICE. they are not keeping us safe, they are murdering people. allocate these funds to community organizations, sustainability efforts, and the quality of education. it is insane to have that much money for the police AND to expect the police to do a ton of jobs they are not qualified for!!!!

Any budget that increases the Phoenix police budget is strongly opposed by me and many other residents of Phoenix. The people have been out in triple digit heat to send a message to the council and Mayor that the Phoenix pd budget needs to be decreased and that money needs to be invested in services that alleviate issues faced by the people of Phoenix. If Diciccio is so concerned about police spouses, then taking officers off of the street is the only solution to ensure their safety.

This is the deadliest police force in the country and it's not right. A lot of this budget could be better used funding things like education and social services.

The overwhelming majority of Phoenicians want the money you are allocating to the Phoenix Police to be reallocated to education, community development & enrichment, homelessness, and mental health initiatives. Our education system is in shambles and teachers have to pay for supplies out of their own pockets. Meanwhile they get paid horribly. The Phoenix police is beyond reform and we need money allocated to real resources for people.
