7 Protest Update

Mayor & City Council actively support the PPD's violent tactics & militarized weapons to silence Black led organizers. PPD ONLY attacked Black led protests. The community was simply exercising their 1st amendment right to assemble against police murders. PPD attacked w/tear gas, rubber bullets & arrested over 300 people. PPD did NOT show up to the post election protests where over 200 people w/WEAPONS gathered at MCRO. Your job is to serve the people, instead you are complicit in harming us.

These two agencies and their partnership are totally corrupt. We see this exemplified in the countless cases where judges have refused to charge people based on police reports lacking probable cause; and then, MCAO brings the same charges to grand juries for indictment. This is unacceptable and an abuse of power.

PPD has a long history of targeting and abusing people based on their political beliefs. They surveil and target Black and brown activists, hoping to silence them. Phoenix police go out of their way with violent tactics to harm and oppress people demanding justice. This is NONSENSE City Council!

The city is wasting taxpayer dollars. Police are arresting peaceful protesters, judicial officers are dismissing cases because there are no facts supporting them, and prosecutors are declining to prosecute them. People are being targeted and harassed for speaking out against this system, which they have a constitutional right to do, and the following persecution is absurd. It is time to sanction every police officer that took part in this egregious abuse of the justice system and waste of money.

The takeaway from these marches should not be the 'burden' police have taken on by forcing their hand and spending $14m, but the cries and demands for real, proactive, change that our communities are calling for. The city council needs to show support and understanding to these protests and listen to why we are out on the streets. Phoenix PD has abused their power over and over these last months and there are now gang/riot charges for dozens of other activists. This is not right. Listen to us

PD should be reimbursed for these costs incurred while protecting people and property.

These arrests were unnecessary and every single judge involved agreed because they were all dismissed. But putting those hundreds of people in jail potentially created countless superspreaders. PPD is singlehandedly undermining the efforts of our community to flatten the curve. This is NONSENSE City Council!

Phoenix council and mayor, you need to do your job and listen to the people and help protect the people. All summer long, you’ve seen and heard how the Phoenix police department have been targeting Black led protests, which is the right of the people, and wrongfully arresting them. It is time to do your job and hold PPD accountable for their actions against Black organizers.

Police have wasted over $12M in taxpayer dollars by saturating peaceful marches with expensive equipment and hundreds of extra officers. This is UNACCEPTABLE!

We have seen Phoenix PD continuously terrorize civilians for exercising their right to protest. Protesters have been stalked to their homes, had their property stolen, and been beaten in the streets. All by the people who claim they are protecting us. These protests are not the problem. The police are the problem. Instead of a "protest update", start giving updates on how you're holding police accountable for the ceaseless violence they commit and how you plan on fixing our broken justice system

Why are there double standards for prosecutions? Why are people fighting for the safety of their communities treated worse than police officers who end innocent lives? As police continue to physically harm civilians with impunity, those behind this "loophole" should be charged with felonies, not the protestors and organizers asking for answers and safety. When will this end? How many more lives have to be lost before our communities are safe? This is UNJUST.

When it becomes acceptable for police to intimidate, harass, & arrest folks exercising their right to protest unjust actions by the police, we have lost a right imperative to our freedom. Without this fundamental right which is protected by the constitution, we are nothing. This is an important moment, not only for the city of Phoenix, but the state, & the nation. Do the right thing. Stop tolerating & facilitating this bullying behavior that is a threat our freedom.

We don't see anything on the agenda that reflects the true problems that affect our community. We have been talking about PPD’s violent treatment and are consistently ignored. Now our people brave enough to protest this treatment are being targeted, attacked and caged in an attempt to silence us so your tactics don’t have to change. This is NONSENSE City Council!

Mayor & Councilmembers you actively support the Phoenix Police in using violent tactics and militarized weapons to silence Black-led organizers, when your duty is to help us hold them accountable and reduce the harm they cause every day. Nothing on the agenda reflects the true problems that affect our community. Instead, you allow PPD to waste over $12M in taxpayer dollars by saturating peaceful marches with expensive equipment and hundreds of extra officers.

In recent protests against police violence, Phoenix PD arrested 3 children and a dozen people, who are facing felony street gang charges and could be sentenced to years in prison for doing nothing more than exercising their 1st amendment rights to assemble and protest the oppressive and relentless violence of Phoenix Police. PPD wasted over $12M in taxpayer funds by saturating peaceful marches with expensive equipment and hundreds of extra officers. Are you accountable to community, or cops?

We don’t need a ‘protest update.’ We need an update on what is being done to reduce the harm and power the Phoenix Police Department abuses to attack, arrest, and kill our community. That is what the community needs. We are asking council members to stop supporting one of the most violent forces in the nation and instead stand in solidarity with the people.

The feckless leadership of the mayor and council has allowed PPD to run rampant, using violent tactics and militarized weapons to silence Black led organizers. Police ONLY attack Black led protests. This is no coincidence. It is long overdue that city council stops allowing these petulant children from targeting and harming our residents. Not only has city council allowed this anti-Blackness and violence perpetrated against its own communities by Phoenix Police, they've bankrolled it.

Phx PD has been violently and actively worked to prevent free speech. Phx PD are violent thugs and our elected officials have empowered their violence by remaining silent. Phx PD gestapo-like tactics of targeting activists and political dissidents at their homes is frightening. The city council cannot continue to fund and sanction this state violence.
