I ask that the council pass the budget, as is, that city staff has spent weeks crafting to maintain critical citywide services despite COVID19. Don't be intimidated or threatened into making decisions risking our long-term financial health, Federal & State funding, or public safety. You have the responsibility to use financial prudence as has been successfully done during budget crises in the past, look to the future, protect our financial health and standing, and protect public safety.

As a lifelong Phoenician, I oppose the current $944.7MM proposed to go toward the Phoenix PD, one of the most violent departments in the US. No other profession would reward abuse of power in this way. Defund Phoenix PD by at least 25% and invest in programs like housing, community centers, and lifelong education that are PROVEN to actually reduce crime and keep our communities safe. If people don't feel safe when cops are around, why keep reinforcing the destructive capacity of Phoenix PD?

I am a Phoenix native and I oppose the proposed budget. Arizona is traditionally ranked high in police violence and low in education. This is a massive disservice to the people of Arizona. Divert at least 25% of the proposed Public Safety Fund to policing alternative public services such as mental health and trauma services, education, housing, healthcare, and employment opportunities. These services will reduce the crime rate more than any police force can.

I oppose the current proposed budget. The Phoenix Police should be defunded by at least 25%. Why would do we continue to give the police additional tools that they have repeatedly shown they will only use to abuse power. While it is difficult to imagine anything beyond our current punitive justice system, something better is possible and it can only start with the immediate end of terrorizing communities of color.

Please take responsible action regarding defunding the police department. This is not a time to take away funds, equipment, training and support. In this emotional climate a wrong decision could have long lasting and catastrophic results. After last weekends protests, looting and property damage it is clear that police protection for communities needs to be a high priority .
Do what is right and necessary and do not defund the police department.

I strongly oppose the proposed $944,680,555 for our public safety department for the 2020-21 fiscal year. Our community is asking that you instead increase the proposed $24,760,742 and $26,837,014 budgets for community development and community enrichment. We must prioritize healing and growth in our community over further militarization of our police force. It's time to focus on sustainable communities, justice, and dismantling systematic oppression and police brutality.

Defunding our PHX PD after what took place last week in Phoenix, Scottsdale and the rest of our Nation, has to be the most ludicrous suggestion I have ever heard. You should be talking about what you can do to help improve the PD, not cutting funds. You should be talking about hiring more officers and making sure they have the latest and best equipment available to protect us and our property. PLEASE DO NOT DEFUND THE PHX PD.

I strongly oppose the current proposed budget. We need more civilian and public oversight of police and law enforcement misconduct, especially now during a global pandemic. Like someone already mentioned in this comment section, the Office of Accountability and Transparency would account for roughly 0.03% of the city's budget. Therefore, the least you can do is FUND OAT!

We need to allocate more funds for social services than funding a police force that has a history of police brutality. We will all benefit.

If you are a human being, you would consider defunding the police and putting funds towards a department of accountability. There has been too many innocent deaths of people of color here in Phoenix. This needs to stop!

After hearing hundreds upon hundreds of public comments, the city council cannot in their right mind continue to fund the police department at the level which they currently do. DEFUND THE POLICE

    Invest in Blue.
If this budget cut is the initiative of our elected officials - I ask that they be first in line to forfeit their hired security.
Our police department operates on a budget that barely covers salaries - with pennies left to cover costs for equipment, etc.
If the people elected want to initiate an oversight committee - find the funds elsewhere - such as taking a salary cut.

I fully support the funding for PHX PD. Cutting the budget would only encourage hundreds of veteran officers to retire early leaving a very understaffed police department with no money to hire or train new officers. What qualifies councilman Garcia to decide if phoenix police should be defunded when he only speaks for a small portion of the city. PHX PD is one of the best most professional departments in the country. Support them and help them to get even better.

I support item 44 for the Adoption of the 2020-21 Annual Budget as submitted. City Departments have spent numerous hours to get the budget to this point. There are ample opportunities throughout the process for Public comments. City council members should understand the process and also have opportunities to request changes. Councilman Garcia’s use of unethical tactics at the last minute to change the budget it outrageous! Please don’t accept any new motions and adopt the budget!

I support Item 44 for the Adoption of the 2020-21 Annual Budget as submitted. The tactics that were played during last Wednesday's City Council meeting were despicable. The City Budget planning process is a huge undertaking by city staff and all city departments. Public Comment is sought every step of the way. For Councilman Garcia to think that he could stumble into a Council meet with an entirely new motion for $2,500.000.00 is ludicrous. Don't accept any further motions. Adopt this Budget!

The current system oversight of the PHX PD is not enough. I support a better funded Office of Accountability and Transparency. Stop allowing low accountability for a force that is meant to serve the people.
