1 Discussion and Consideration of Citywide Face Covering Policy

I wear a mask in public but oppose this mandate. What are the parameters? Would a mask be needed when I am out walking alone and nowhere near others? Would one be needed while I drive my car? What about dining out? Who would enforce this mandate? What are the penalties? While I think the masks are good and don't understand why someone would not want to protect themselves I don't agree a mandate is the answer.

Our economy is never going to recover until the spread of this pandemic is slowed down, and that is not happening anytime soon, unless wearing a mask in public becomes the norm. Wearing a face covering is not a hardship, as all you need is a piece of fabric large enough to cover your mouth and nose. The fabric can be thin and breathable and still prevent the spread of the virus. If you can afford a t-shirt, you can afford to cover your mouth and nose while in public.

Masks are ineffective and risky. And there is NO science to support they prevent the disease from spreading.

I am almost 68 years old. I am a mother and grandmother. I have an autoimmune disease and high blood pressure. If I got COVID-19 I probably wouldn’t make it. I wear a mask, please wear a mask to help protect me.

This is not a matter of personal freedom, it's a matter of protecting public health. And this is recommended by health professionals. I trust their informed advice more than unfounded personal opinions of the general public when we're talking about stopping the spread of a highly contagious respiratory illness.

Oppose fine but request everyone to wear a mask in public.

This is an easy way to keep everyone safe. My 78 year old Dad just tested positive. Let's not wait until everyone has to know someone or they are sick themselves. Please help us to stop the spread!

Phoenix must require the wearing of masks. It is the best way to prevent additional sickness! It is also important in making certain that our medical community can take care of those that do need help. They should be worn in all public places.

Arizona nurses are fighting for lives on the front lines of this pandemic. As an RN and Executive Director of the Arizona Nurses Association, the association strongly supports this policy. Facial coverings are ESSENTIAL to mitigate pandemic spread. Wearing a facial covering is a simple and inexpensive step that any individual – including those who may not know they are infected – can take to protect their fellow Arizonans from COVID-19.

There is no question that at this point in our virus numbers uptick we MUST have a mandatory wearing of masks policy. It's what's called being a good citizen!!

Even Dr. Fauci Lied about MASKS !

Masks are Ineffective and Risky. And there is NO science to support they do; in fact, quite the opposite is true!
In Epidemics 2017, a meta-analysis mask wearing effectiveness had mixed reviews. Although some studies showed some helpfulness in mask wearing, “the primary finding was that regular hand hygiene was significantly protective in protecting from pandemic influenza infection, while face mask use was not significantly protective.”

I strongly support a City ordinance that requires facial masks in public. I have submitted a formal letter outlining the evidence of efficacy and data on community spread of COVID-19 in Phoenix. Our hospitals need your action to preserve hospital capacity to ensure proper care for all those patients who need it. Az Hospital and Healthcare Association

I fully support requiring Phoenix residents to wear masks in public spaces. We need to do all we can to reduce transmission and promote safety. Masks work when everyone uses them. Please vote in favor of the mask requirement.

Please protect the public and put measures in place to flatten the curve by mandating masks in public!

I oppose the illegal government mandate to wear a useless face-covering. If you pass this, expect to see lawsuits.

I strongly oppose the forced use of masks. There are far too many studies that confirm that wearing masks for extended periods of time are detrimental to your health. This is obviously more politically motivated then anything else. So rioting is over, and covid 19 returns with vengeance! Please stop the non-sense, and make the right decision. Think of it this way, without all of the hype, what would you do. Actually it would be a non issue, like H1N1 was when Obama was President.

Support. For the greater good, we all should be required to wear masks in public settings. Doing the right thing now will help mitigate an increase in cases and ensure we don't need to shut down the economy again, which would be more detrimental.
