1 Discussion and Consideration of Citywide Face Covering Policy

I support wearing masks and/or face shields as they have been recommended to stop the spread of COVID-19. It is especially important to have a clear policy for schools that open in as early as six weeks from now. Enforcement of this policy SHOULD NOT involve the police. This can not be another reason for Phoenix PD to target our BIPOC community or our people experiencing homelessness. Please be clear and specific on the guidelines.

As resident of Phoenix and a physician that also works here, I wholeheartedly support mandatory masking in public spaces. Doing such would decrease rates of COVID-19 infection, protecting our vulnerable populations and preventing our health care system from being overburdened.

This will cause more damages than it will help stop the spread. The masks clearly state on them they not protect against any viruses nor will they stop the spread. If you require people to wear masks in public, be prepared to get alot of lawsuits after due to lungs collapsing. Please dont mandate this, more people will be in pain than getting any help.

Yes please adopt this policy, its clear (and supported by the CDC and medical community) that this simple but effective measure can make a huge difference.

As a city resident, Phoenix elementary school board member and leader of a Phoenix non profit, I urge you to pass this necessary mandatory mask policy. The evidence and data are clear, it is the single most effective tool we have to stop the spread in indoor environments when social distancing is not always possible.

Yes, I support masks. They are proven to be helpful and the more people who comply, the less chance of infection.

It is critical to have mandatory mask rules.

As a physician, I support this motion. Our hospitals and ICUs are filling, with some already requiring diversion. Masks and social distancing are both imperfect but effective steps in protecting Phoenicians (especially our most vulnerable residents).

I work at Mayo Clinic Hospital in the lab where we run COVID tests. Our positive percentage has dramatically increased over the last couple of weeks. In addition, Mayo found that once we started requiring masks, staff infections decreased 90%.

I support a mandate that masks be worn while out in public. The recent literature has shown that even cloth face masks help to reduce the spread of COVID. I am a registered nurse and have worn face masks throughout my career. They are not burdensome or an attack on your freedom. We need an all out effort by everyone to slow the number of COVID cases and wearing face masks will help.

I support the motion. There is plenty of research to support this effort to slow the spread of COVID-19.

I support the motion; if people would do it without a mandate, that would be great. But that obviously isn't working. And I wouldn't say we need a mandate if the result would be just the non-wearer getting sick. But it affects me and you and all of us.

I support mandatory masks in public. Some of the opponents state that they can decide whether they need to wear one, but if you are an asymptomatic carrier you would not be aware that you have the infection and yet could be transmitting it. I am a physician and well acquainted with surgical masks and n95s and routinely wear n95s for many hours at a time. They are uncomfortable and you do need to get used to them. Cloth masks / surgical masks are easier to wear and this provision will save lives.

Our policy not to mandate face coverings has been a disaster. Our hospitals will soon run out of capacity. We can reduced the infection rate by simply mandating the wearing of face masks in public Please vote to mandate the wearing of face masks.

If masks work why are we to be 6' apart?
If being 6' apart works why are we wearing masks?
If they both work, why were people sent home for months and told not to work?
The majority of cloth coverings being used aren't doing a single preventative thing. If you are sick, susceptible or just like masks, wear one! But leave the mandate out. Any physician on here hailing the use of masks in 110 degree heat next week is not worth the paper their MD was printed on.

Please adopt s face covering mandate for Phoenix. The pandemic is not ending anytime soon and face coverings will help lower the incidence of Covid 19. As a pancreatic cancer survivor, having such a mandate may save my life.

We should require masks be worn in public. It is my individual freedom and right to be able to go out in public without fear of contracting COVID-19. It is an easy thing to do to help us diminish the risk.

Owning a high intensity interval training boutique fitness studio, I would ask for a point of distinction. We are capping classes at 12 people inside 2500 square feet. Most are near passing out by end of class without a mask. How will we safely coach classes if clients are passing out from hypoxia? I just ask for specific guidance.
