I support mandatory masks because common sense and science both dictate that wearing masks can save lives. I love Phoenix and want my fellow Phoenicians to be safe.

I oppose this proposal for three reasons: First, it politicizes what should be a decision based solely on the latest available science & doesn't even comport with that, (i.e., viral transfer occur during lengthy close-quarters contact); secondly, it's a disquieting civil liberties precedent; third, it exacerbates social stratification. If approved, I expect the city fund & distribute free masks to impoverished people. The arrogance of assuming everyone can afford many masks is unconscionable.

I support a face covering policy mandate. In my experience when shopping for essential goods, less than 5% of citizens have been wearing masks. This non-compliance with CDC guidelines is likely why Arizona has the highest virus infection rates per capita in the country. If citizens cannot be relied upon to voluntarily implement public safety measures to protect our community in the middle of a pandemic and skyrocketing infection rates, mandatory compliance is our only alternative.

My family and I are in full support of a citywide mandate on face coverings. If our community members can't make the best, common sense choice to help protect others, than I guess it needs to be put in the hands of our city government to require it.

Just wear your masks. If y’all don’t make this mandatory you’re agreeing to let people off themselves but that’s on y’all. I know it’s hard for the entitled people of Phoenix and Scottsdale to understand the concept of being considerate towards other people but I’m sure you can spare twenty minutes of your time to just do it. Unless you’re wearing your mask for five hours straight, I SERIOUSLY doubt you’ll poison yourself. Keep that same energy when your loved ones are on their deathbed though.

As a healthcare provider who directly cares for hospitalized COVID-19 patients, I have seen too many patients suffer from this deadly illness. I have also witnessed increasing fatigue and frustration among healthcare workers as our numbers rise. This has to stop. Scientific studies support the use of face masks to help prevent transmission, along with physical distancing. We are in the middle of a pandemic and need to look out for our general population.

I am opposed to a mandatory citywide face-covering policy. The decision to wear a face-covering or not should be left to an individual's own conscience and belief in the benefit or detriment of said face-coverings. This is an issue of individual freedom vs. state-sanctioned totalitarianism.

wearing masks for prolong periods is very unhealthy to our bodies. With masks, our breath backs up carbon dioxide and all the bacteria and microbes our body has expelled and when we exhale It's stressful to our respiratory system while laboring to breathe through the masks. Especially in Arizona where we have extreme temperatures.

I support mandatory masks in public during this pandemic. It will slow the spread in our communities with proper social distancing and allow us to revive our economy in a safe manner.

It’s the only way to stop the spread and keep businesses open.

it’s funny to me that many of the people opposing masks claim to be “prolife” and how “all lives matter”. seems like that’s only the case when it’s convenient to them and not when other people’s life’s are at risk. “i don’t wanna wear a mask it’s my right!!” blah blah blah just stfu and say you don’t care about the lives of other people and if you put them at risk. wear your dang mask & stop crying like a little kid about it. it’s to keep YOU, YOUR FAMILY & OTHERS save. “All lives matter” right?

Making mask mandatory is an attack on our health and freedom. It defeats what American stands for and the lives that died to protect our rights will go in vain. Anything that has to be mandatory never leads to anything good!

I am a Registered Nurse who works on a covid unit. We have seen our number of covid positive patients steadily climb since Memorial Day, and have had several staff members get sick with covid as well as a result of exposure while working. There have already been reports of hospital systems nearing capacity in their Intensive Care Units, and running out of necessary equipment to care for these very sick patients. Please consider making public mask wearing mandatory, for the good of our city.

Many doctors and virologist have warned of the unhealthiness of wearing masks fo prolonged periods. With masks, one breathes back in all their carbon dioxide with all the bacteria and microbes their body has expelled when exhaling. It is stressful to the respiratory system laboring to breathe through masks in Arizona's extreme temperatures. And as a security guard, I have to communicate with hearing impaired people and I have to lift my mask so they can read my lips! It's cruel and unreasonable.

I support mandatory masks in public. They have been shown to be effective in stopping the spread of Covid 19. Thank you.

Longterm facial coverings have been scientifically proven to have detrimental health effects including but not limited to a weakened immune system. Also the W.H.O. has stated that asymptomatic carriers are not spreading it like they originally thought. If you would like to wear a mask to protect yourself, do so and if you choose not to wear a mask then you should also have that right to do so!

My mask protects you and your mask protects me. Is that too much to ask for the public good?

Mask use should be at each individuals discretion. We don’t need our elected officials to make decisions about our health. Practice proper hygiene, safe distancing, and common sense. No mandatory masks.

There is no conclusive scientific evidence that prove masks work to prevent viral spread.
