As a lifelong resident of South Phoenix, is can say it is never the goal for us to leave, but find a home in our community. City of Phoenix and all involved in SP development claim to always have the residents top of mind when developing. CPLC using MFI and not AMI to determine affordability is not only predatory but is also a message that this development is not for all residents of South Phoenix, but the right ones. I appose this project as is.

I oppose Item 71. This development project does not have community support, and Chicanos Por La Causa has refused to meet with Black leadership to discuss the needs of those who will be most directly impacted by displacement in South Phoenix. CPLC has been irresponsible and anti-Black in their development processes and practices, while also putting undocumented people at increased risk for displacement. For these reasons, the city should deny CPLC the opportunity for this development project.

Start putting the interests of the people over money. Stop the gentrification and resegregation that is happening here.

Oppose. This will hurt the families living in the area more than anything. We cannot let gentrification destroy the progress Arizona has made and we can't allow more people to be displaced.

CPLC has used median family income based on Maricopa, and parts of Pinal county, rather than the project's zip code to determine "affordability". The number presented by CPLC is almost twice that of the median income of the proposed development's zip code. This is a predatory development practice, and puts Black communities in this area at risk of displacement. I strongly oppose CPLC's development project and urge you to vote against this measure.

Oppose. CPLC is a predatory developer and their proposed development will not deliver on their promise of making housing affordable to the current residents of south Phoenix. This is predatory gentrification, and I urge the council to vote NO on this matter.

I strongly oppose the CPLC project. This is veiled gentrification. This proposal would make it so that most of the residents in this area would be unable to continue to afford to live there. Please reject this proposal so that as a city we don’t cause displacement of more individuals during the current crisis we already facing with the pandemic.

I oppose the CPLC proposal. The current proposal does not center those most directly impacted by health disparity in South Mountain Village nor will it deliver on its promise of being affordable for the communities that live there. This proposal is gentrification.

I urge you to oppose this measure. Once again, "development" signals the displacement and disregard for the community, in particular, South Phoenix's Black residents. By skirting around those directly affected and inflating rent prices, it's clear the motive is not to provide more resources and affordable housing but instead profit at the expense of people. It's time to end to the tired habit in Phoenix, neglecting basic needs and disrupting people's lives and neighborhoods for dollar signs.

Please immediately suspend the CPLC development project in South Phoenix. Our housing crisis is bad enough and about to get worse during this pandemic without the help of predatory development practices.

This project will not be affordable to the communities who live here. Approving this would be an act of displacement and further proof that Phoenix fails to value and protect its people. The area median income was not used to determine the affordability of CPLC's project and it should have been.

CPLC eschewed standard practice for determining affordability in order to inflate pricing, a move that will displace Black community members in South Phoenix. This is especially unconscionable in the midst of a depression and pandemic. Given your reluctance to fund shelter beds, I trust you'll be eager to protect affordable housing. I oppose this measure and urge you to as well.

Phoenix has already been growing rapidly for over a decade and is now unaffordable to low income people and families. The fact of the matter is this will displace a majority of black families from the area, further upholding systemic racism, we cannot allow this to continue to be the American way. We cannot continue to exploit low income families for gentrifyable neighborhoods. PEOPLE BEFORE PROPERTY AND PROFIT.

Chicanos Por La Causa has shown us how little Black people mean to them. They circumvented local leadership and ignored invitations to engage with community in a meaningful way. They reinforced state sanctioned violence against Black people by pushing for inaccessible development in our neighborhoods. For this, and other response that don’t fit in the 500 character limit, I am opposed to the chicanos por la causa proposed development project.

This ordinance displaces low income black families who need housing. Oppose gentrification!

Opposed on so many levels. The fact that CPLC bypassed community and felt they were above a community process is a glimpse as to why these systems of oppression are affecting and killing our communities of color. I urge the council to not think of who your friends are at CPLC but to do the right and ethical thing. Community first!

Covid has highlighted systemic racism in multiple levels at the a City of Phoenix. This city is growing, becoming unaffordable and beginning to engage in displacement practices masked as development in Black and brown neighborhoods. CPLC refused to speak to or adapt their plan in alignment with Black community in South Phx. This is unacceptable. We must vote NO on Cplc proposal. Phoenix must be active in fighting against anti-blackness and racist practices.
